Welcome to VAW-125!
Welcome aboard VAW-125, THE "WORLD FAMOUS" TIGERTAILS. You are joining a dynamite team of sailors who are dedicated to our mission of providing AIRBORNE EARLY WARNING AND COMMAND AND CONTROL to CARRIER AIR WING ONE (CVW-1) to which we are assigned aboard USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71), and joint force commanders under whose direction we serve. Established in 1968, the Squadron is currently transitioning to the E-2D Advanced Hawkeye Aircraft. Our successes lie in steadfast efforts or our people and VAW-125 requires a total team effort of all assigned personnel. We can achieve our mission only through teamwork. You will be an integral part of our team effort and your talents will be put to good use. The squadron is home ported at Naval Station Norfolk, Virginia, and is one of the six VAW squadrons based in Norfolk.
We fly the Northrop-Grumman E-2D Advanced Hawkeye, a dual engine, turboprop airborne command and control aircraft often referred to as the Hummer; Our principal mission is Command and Control of airborne, surface, and battlefield assets. This includes long range detection of hostile forces, strike control at sea, coordination and control for power projection ashore and fleet air defense. We have participated in the ongoing Global War on Terrorism as well as a variety of multi-national exercises throughout the world. We are manned with approximately 150 top-notch enlisted and 30 officers, every one vital to the success of our mission. The work we do is demanding, only the highest degree of professionalism will guarantee success. The rewards and sense of accomplishment of being on a winning team will be worth the effort.
For your off-duty hours, the city of Norfolk area offers a wide variety of both indoor and outdoor recreational activities, with beautiful beaches only minutes away. Historic Williamsburg and Yorktown are within a half-hour drive, and Washington D.C. is an enjoyable one-day trip. The Hampton Roads area is also one of the premier cultural centers on the Eastern seaboard. You will find a multitude of jazz, pop, rock, and classical concerts, theaters, museums, recreational parks, and fine restaurants.
