Welcome to the Gray Wolves of VAQ-142! I look forward to having you join our team.
The Gray Wolves are a squadron whose mission is to provide worldwide tactical Airborne Electronic Attack against targets at sea or ashore in support of U.S. and Coalition combat forces. We conduct a mission unlike any other in the U.S. Armed Forces, and are transitioning to a new airframe, the EA-18G Growler. The Gray Wolves are a team of proud professionals, and we recently earned the 2013 Commander, Naval Air Force, Pacific Battle "E" and Squadron Blue “M” Awards, the Chief of Naval Operations Aviation Safety "S" Award, the Commander, U.S. Pacific Fleet Retention Excellence Award, and were the Pacific Fleet recipients of the Arleigh Burke Fleet trophy.
VAQ-142 is part of Carrier Air Wing 11 attached to the USS NIMITZ battle group. When deployed, we form a tight-knit group that is one of the best in Naval Aviation. Operation from an aircraft carrier is a unique experience that provides many opportunities for hard charging Sailors to excel. As with all sea duty expect a high operational tempo, and a challenging but rewarding assignment. Our deployments provide you many opportunities to achieve both personal and professional goals such as getting your Aviation and Surface Warfare pins, enrolling in distance learning courses, and advancing or improving your physical fitness, as well as visiting foreign ports and experiencing different cultures.
When not deployed, VAQ-142 is home based at Naval Air Station Whidbey Island (NASWI), Washington. Whidbey Island is a thriving military community and an absolutely beautiful place to live! There are world-class skiing, snowboarding, fishing, hiking and mountain biking in the area, and we are less than two hours from both Seattle, Washington and Vancouver, Canada.
For more details about our command, and contact information for our Ombudsman and Family Readiness Group, please visit our website at http://www.public.navy.mil/airfor/vaq142/Pages/default.aspx.
This is an exciting time to join our squadron, and we are always eager to welcome aboard new members who can bring something new to the team. Whether this is your first duty station or the latest of many, I look forward to meeting you and personally welcoming you to the Gray Wolf family!
