Aron F. Buckles
Commander, Unites States Navy
Raised stateside and abroad in a military family, Commander Buckles is a graduate of Standford University and was commissioned through the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps at the University of California, Berkeley in June 1995.
After completing flight training in NAS Pensacola, Florida, he was designated a Naval Flight Officer in February 1997 and transferred to NAS Whidbey Island, Washington.
Following initial as an EA-6B Prowler Electronic Countermeasures Officer (ECMO) with the VAQ-129 "Vikings", Commander Buckles reported in June 1998 to the VAQ-135 "Black Ravens" assigned to Carrier Air Wing ELEVEN (CVW-11) onboard USS CARL VINSON (CVN 70), serving in various junior officer billets and deploying to the Western Pacific, Arabian Gulf and Incirlik, Turkey in support of Operations SOUTHERN WATCH and NORTHERN WATCH.
In June 2001, Commander Buckles returned to VAQ-129, where he served as Tactics, NATOPS and Carrier Qualification Instructor and ECMO Standardization Officer. In February 2003, he was selected as Flag Aide to Navy Region Northwest/Naval Surface Grooup Pacific Northwest in Bangor, Washington.
Commander Buckles then served briefly as an Individual Augmentee in J5 Plan at U.S. Central Command prior to attending U.S. Marine Corps Command and Staff College in August 2005, where he was awarded a Masters of Military Studies.
Commander Buckles returned to sea duty with the VAQ-139 "Cougars" assigned to Carrier Air Wing FOURTEEN (CVW-14) onboard USS RONALD REAGAN (CVN 76), where he served as Safety, Operations, and Maintenance Department Head and deployed to the Western Pacific and North Arabian Gulf in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM.
In February 2009, Commander Buckles reported to the NATO CIS Services Agency (NCSA) in Mons, Belgium, Serving as Deployable CIS System Manager and System Management Divsion Operations Officer. From April to August 2010, he also deployed as the NCSA Liasion Officer to International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) Headquarters in Kabul, Afghanistan.
In December 2011, Commander Buckles reported as Executive Officer to the VAQ-134 "Garudas" assigned to Carrier Air Wing SEVENTEEN (CVW-17) onboard USS CARL VINSON (CVN 70), completing a six month deployment to the Western Pacific and Arabian Gulf in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM.
Commander Buckles has been awarded the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal-Strike/Flight (4 awards), Navy Commendation Medal, Joint Achievement Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (4 awards) and various other personal and service awards. He has accumulated over 2000 flight hours and 630 carrier arrested landings in the EA-6B.
