Commander Derek R. Fix
Commander Derek Fix, a native of Cleveland, OH, is a 1997 distinguished graduate of the Virginia Military Institute with a Bachelor of Arts in History. Following graduation, he was commissioned through the NROTC program and was designated a Naval Flight Officer in May 1999 after completing initial E-2C Hawkeye training at VAW-120.
Commander Fix joined the "Seahawks" of VAW-126 in August 1999 onboard USS HARRY S. TRUMAN (CVN-75) where he participated in Operation SOUTHERN WATCH. In September 2002, he reported to the VAW-120 "Greyhawks" as an NFO Instructor, serving as Head Schedules Officer, Air Intercept Control Phase Head, and E-2C Model Manager. In June 2005, he reported to Carrier Air Wing SEVENTEEN (CVW-17) where he served as Air Warfare Officer onboard USS GEORGE WASHINGTON (CVN-73). In September 2007, he graduated from the United States Naval War College with a Master of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies.
In March 2008, he reported to the "Screwtops" of VAW-123 onboard USS ENTERPRISE (CVN-65) for his Department Head tour, serving as Safety, Administrative, and Operations Officer. Commander Fix then completed a joint tour at USTRANSCOM Joint Enabling Capabilities Command (JECC). In June 2013, he reported to the staff of United States Fleet Forces Command where he served as Battle Watch Captain. He reported to Fleet Area Control and Surveillance Facility, Virginia Capes, in May 2014.
Commander Fix has accumulated over 2,100 flight hours and more than 400 carrier arrested landings in the E-2C Group 0, Group II, and Hawkeye 2000 aircraft. His decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (4), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and various unit and service awards.
