 MISSION 

 

 

     Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron SEVEN SEVEN's (HSM-77) mission is to provide combat ready MH-60R aircraft and personnel for deployment on board Recovery, Assist, Secure and Traverse (RAST) capable ships and aircraft carriers (CVN).

     Designed to replace the SH-60B and the SH-60F, the MH-60R Seahawk is the newest aircraft in the U.S. Navy fleet.  The MH-60R elevates tactical maritime mission capability to a new level by far surpassing previous fleet capability.  The MH-60R is designed to operate from littoral combat ships, frigates, destroyers, cruisers, and aircraft carriers.

Greatly enhanced over its predecessors, the MH-60R incorporates cutting edge technology and features:

  • Multi-Mode Radar
  • Airborne Low Frequency Sonar
  • Multi-spectral targeting system (MTS)-FLIR
  • Advanced airborne fleet data-link
  • Improved Aircraft Survivability Equipment (ASE) package
  • NVG compatible glass cockpit

     These significant mission system improvements give the aircraft unmatched war fighting capabilities as an airborne multi-mission naval platform.  The MH-60R is a force multiplier and a major contributor to the success of the Carrier Strike Group by fulfilling the missions of:

Primary Missions:

  • Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW)
  • Surface Warfare (SUW)

Secondary Missions:

  • Search and Rescue (SAR)
  • Vertical Replenishment (VERTREP)
  • Medical Evacuation (MEDEVAC)
  • Naval Surface Fire Support (NSFS)
  • Communications Relay (COMREL)

     The HSM-77 team consists of both officers and enlisted personnel.  The officer corps consist of pilots, Limited Duty Officers (LDO), Chief Warrant Officers (CWO), an Aerospace Engineering Duty (Maintenance) Officer (AMO) and an Intelligence Officer.

     The diverse enlisted ratings found at HSM-77 include:  Aviation Machinist Mate (AD), Aviation Electricians Mate (AE), Aviation Structural Mechanic (AM), Aviation Ordnance Man (AO), Aviation Electronics Technician (AT), Aviation Maintenance Administration Man (AZ), Naval Aircrewman Romeo (AWR), Aircrew Support Equipment Man (PR) Culinary Specialist (CS), Intelligence Specialist (IS), Information Systems Technician (IT), Logistic Specialist (LS), Master-at-Arms (MA), Operation Specialist (OS), Hospital Corpsman (HM), Navy Career Counselor (NC), Personnel Specialist (PS), and Yeoman (YN). 

     Together, this diverse group of officers and enlisted comprise the most technically, proficient, dedicated and professional team you will find in the U.S. Naval Service.
