Command Master Chief
Command Master Chief Anna Natsuyo Wood, a native of Louisville, Kentucky, began her Naval career on 28 June 1993 at Recruit Training Command, Orlando, Florida, followed by Hospital Corpsman "A" School in San Diego, California. She reported to her first duty station at Naval Hospital Millington, Tennessee and subsequently selected for Surgical Tech "C" School in Bethesda, Maryland.
After graduating with distinction and honors, Master Chief Wood transferred to Naval Hospital Jacksonville, Florida and advanced from Hospitalman to Petty Officer Second Class. In February 1999, she transferred to U.S. Naval Hospital Okinawa, Japan. She served as Leading Petty Officer for the Main Operating Room, President of the Junior Enlisted Association, and was selected as the Command and Marine Corps Base Junior Sailor of the Year, 2001.
Master Chief Wood was selected as a Recruit Division Commander (RDC) and departed for Recruit Training Command (RTC), Great Lakes, Illinois in February 2002. During her tour, she advanced to Petty Officer First Class and Chief Petty Officer, earned her Master Training Specialist and was selected as RDC of the the Year.
In October 2005, Master Chief reported to Field Medical Service School, Camp Pendleton, California. After graduation, she reported to 3d Marine Division, Okinawa, Japan as the Navy Personnel Officer and Senior Medical Department Representative and was designated as an Enlisted Fleet Marine Force Warfare Specialist.
In October 2008, she reported to Naval Medical Center, San Diego, as the Leading Chief Petty Officer of the Emergency Department and was selected to Senior Chief in August 2010. She deployed with USS CLEVELAND in support of Pacific Partnership 2011 and earned her Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist designation.
Master Chief Wood returned to Okinawa in October 2011 and reported to U.S. Naval Hospital Okinawa. She was appointed as the Assistant Transition Team Leader to relocate the hospital from Camp Lester to Camp Foster. She also served as the Senior Enlisted Leader, Directorate for Surgical Services and Healthcare Business.
She was selected to Master Chief Petty Officer in 2015 while stationed at 1st Medical Battalion and subsequently was selected to serve as Command Master Chief, 1st Dental Battalion, 1st Marine Logistics Group. In June 2017, she reported onboard Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron SEVEN ONE (HSM 71) as the RAPTOR Command Master Chief. She is also an Honor Graduate of the Senior Enlisted Academy, Class 136.
Her decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (7 awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (3 awards), and various service and unit awards.
