Master Chief Blake G. Schimmel was raised in Wheaton, IL and graduated from St. John’s Military Academy in 1989. In 1990, he joined the US Navy and completed recruit training in Orlando, FL.
Master Chief Schimmel graduated from Basic Electricity and Electronics School in Orlando, FL. He then completed Electronics Technician “A” school at Great Lakes, IL and “C” schools in San Diego, CA. In 1992, he reported to the USNS SPICA (T-AFS-9) in Agana, Guam.
Master Chief Schimmel graduated with Class 013 from the Special Warfare Combatant-Craft Crewman (SWCC) School in 1994. While assigned to Special Boat Team Twelve, from 1994 and 2005, he served in multiple Sea and Shore duty billets. During that time he deployed in support of OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM, was promoted to Chief Petty Officer, and qualified as a Special Warfare Combat Crewman and Patrol Officer.
In 2006 he served at the NATO Air Component Headquarters in Izmir, Turkey. From late 2006 -2008 Master Chief Schimmel served onboard the USS JOHN L HALL (FFG-32) where he earned his designation as an Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist, was the Visit Board Search and Seizure (VBSS) Team Leader, and CS-4 division LCPO. He then served on the COMUSNAVCENT Flag Staff from 2008-2009. In 2009, Master Chief Schimmel screened and was selected for assignment to the Joint Communications Unit (JCU) in Fort Bragg, NC. While there he deployed multiple times in support of OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM, OPERATION NEW DAWN and OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM. As the JCU Navy Senior Enlisted Leader he started the Expeditionary Warfare Specialist (EXW) and Information Dominance Warfare Specialist (IDW) programs at the JCU. During his tour, he completed the U.S. Army Basic Airborne Course in 2009 and earned the Navy and Marine Corps Parachutist qualification. CMDCM Schimmel is currently serves as the Command Master Chief for HSC-8 in Coronado California and has earned his designation as an Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist.
In 2010, Master Chief Schimmel, graduated the Senior Enlisted Academy class 156 and the Command Master Chief & Chief of the Boat Course in 2012. He also earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Workforce Education and Training Development from Southern Illinois University, in August 2011.
Master Chief Schimmel’s personal awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal x2, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal x 2, Joint Service Achievement Medal, and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal x3.
