“Welcome Aboard!” Congratulations on your orders to HSC-8!
Congratulations on your assignment to Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron EIGHT. Let me first introduce myself. I am AZC Chad Cochuyt, and I am the Command Sponsor Coordinator. WELCOME ABOARD!! You are about to join the BEST Armed Helo Squadron in the Navy! I assure you that your duty here will be both challenging and rewarding.
You should have already received a Welcome Aboard Message and assigned a sponsor. Your sponsor will be the direct link to information about the command and the San Diego Area and is charged with assisting you in your transition here to HSC-8, whether deployed are ashore.
To ensure a successful transfer, you should maintain a consistent and steady line of communication with your sponsor, keeping him/her abreast of your travel plans and any other pertinent information concerning your transfer. I encourage your to utilize your sponsor to help answer any questions you may have. The following are a few basic questions your sponsor needs answers to in order to ensure that your transfer goes smoothly:
1. When and by what means do you plan to arrive in San Diego?
2. Are you married/single?
3. Do you have any children/dependents?
4. Are you planning on living in military housing or out in town?
5. If you are planning to live out in town, do you have any specific requirements? (number of rooms, rent, pets, etc.)
Additionally, Commander, Navy Region Southwest has established a relocation assistance website for military members and their families transferring to the San Diego area. The website, www.cnic.navy.mil (hyperlinked), provides information on the San Diego area to include all local installation, Family Housing, Child Care, Military Installations, Area Schools, Utility Companies, and many more resources for military members moving to the area.
If you have any questions or if I can be of any assistance to you, or your family, please don’t hesitate to call me at DSN 545-9040, or commercial (619) 545-9040. E-mail email@example.com is the best way to contact me.
Again, WELCOME ABOARD Shipmate! I’m glad to be of any help or assistance!
C. W. COCHUYT
