Commander Douglas W. Rosa

CDR Douglas Warren Rosa is a native of Garden City, Michigan and enlisted in the Navy in 1984.  Upon completion of recruit training at NTC Great Lakes, Illinois and AMS "A" School in Millington, Tennessee, he was assigned to Light Attack Squadron EIGHTY ONE at NAS CECIL Field, Florida.  In 1990 he was granted a Navy Rotc scholarship to Jacksonville University, Jacksonville, Florida where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Geography.  He was commissioned in 1994 and was designated a Naval Aviator in April 1997.

Upon completion of the Navy MH-53E Fleet Replacement Pilot Training at Helipcopter Marine Training Squadron 302, MACS New River, North Carolina in December 1997, he reported to Helicopter Combat Support Squadron FOUR (HC-4), Naval Air Station Sigonella, Italy, for his initial sea tour.  Between 1997 and 2001 he served as DET-Delta Division Officer and OIC for numerous Combat Support Detachments to include Operations SOUTHERN WATCH, DESERT FOX, and NOBLE ANVIL.  He also served as Squadron NATOPS Officer.

Subsequent sea duty assignments include a tour as Mini Boss aboard USS NASSAU (LHA-4), NS Norfolk, Virginia, from 2003 to 2005.  While onboard he qualified as OOD (Underway) and CDO (Underway).

His Department Head tour was with HC-4, NAS Sigonella, Italy and NS Norfolk, Virginia from 2005 to 2007.  During this tour he served as squadron Maintenance Officer and DET OIC deploying to Camp Buhering, Kuwait in support of CFLCC, US Third Army for OIF.  

After successful completion of his DH tour, CDR Rosa reported to Naval War College, Newport, Rhode Island where he has earned a Master of Arts Degree in National Security ans Strategic Studies.  In 2008 he transferred to the Joint IED Defeat Organization in Washington, DC for a Joint assignment where he served as a Branch Chief in the Technology and Resource Integration Division.

CDR Rosa was selected for Commander in 2009 and upon completion of his Joint assignment he joined Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron TWO in Norfolk, Virginia where he served as Executive Officer from 2011 to 2012.  In 2012 he was reassigned to the DRAGON WHALES of Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron TWO EIGHT and assumed the duties as Executive Officer.

His first shore duty assignment was with Airborne Mine Countermeasures Weapons System Training School (AWSTS) in Norfolk, Virginia, where he served from 2001 until 2003 as Instructor Pilot and as the COMNAVAIRLANT NATOPS MH-53E FLeet Evaluator.

Commander Rosa is married to the former Heather Noel James of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida and has a son, Vincent and a daughter, Tegan.  CDR Rosa's personal decorations: Joint Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals, and the Navy Good conduct Medal.
