 CMDCM Dean A. Sonnenberg 

Command Master Chief Sonnenberg enlisted in the Navy through the Delayed Entry Program in June 1996. 
 
After completing AT “A” School in Millington, TN, he was first assigned to the ‘Tridents’ of Patrol Squadron TWO SIX at NAS Brunswick, ME from 1997 thru 2003 during which he served as Avionics Branch Supervisor and performed as an in-flight special projects technician from 1997 thru 2003.  His other sea duty assignments were to the ‘Royal Maces’ of Strike Fighter Squadron TWO SEVEN Atsugi, Japan from 2006 thru 2009; as a Flight Deck Coordinator and Maintenance Control Chief and advanced to Senior Chief Petty Officer.  Then he was assigned as an Individual Augmentee to Joint CREW Composite Squadron ONE Iraq from 2009 thru 2010 as an Electronic Warfare Officer.  Then to the ‘Valions’ of Strike Fighter Squadron FIFTEEN Virginia Beach VA from 2013 thru 2015 where he served as the Maintenance Control Senior Chief Petty Officer and the Carrier Air Wing EIGHT Detachment MMCPO in Kandahar, Afghanistan and Ali Al Salem, Kuwait in support of Operations Enduring Freedom and Inherent Resolve, he was advanced to Master Chief Petty Officer in May 2014.
 
His shore duty assignments include the ‘Shadows’ of Fleet Air Reconnaissance Squadron FOUR Detachment in Patuxent River, MD from 2003 thru 2006 where he served as the Operational Control Center Leading Petty Officer and was advanced to Chief Petty Officer; and the ‘Gladiators’ of Strike Fighter Squadron ONE ZERO SIX, serving as the Airframes LCPO, QAS, and Senior Enlisted Advisor from 2010 thru 2013. 
 
In March 2015, he reported as the Command Master Chief of the ‘Dragon Whales’ of Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron TWO EIGHT at Naval Station Norfolk, VA.
 
- His decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Navy/Marine Corp Commendation Medal (3 awards), Navy/Marine Corp Achievement Medal (4 awards), Army Achievement Medal and various campaign and personal awards.
 
He is a graduate of both the Senior Enlisted Academy (RC 171, Khaki), and the CMC/COB course (141).
