Commander Aaron Taylor
Commander Aaron Taylor, a native of Carlsbad, California, graduated from Tufts University in 1998 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. He received his commission through the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps and was designated a Naval Aviator in 2000.
After completion of H-46 fleet replacement training, he was assigned to the “Gunbearers” of Helicopter Combat Support Squadron 11 (HC-11) in San Diego, California. His tour included deployments aboard USS Boxer (LHD-4) and USS Tarawa (LHA-1) in support of Operations Enduring Freedom, Southern Watch and Iraqi Freedom. In 2003, Commander Taylor reported to the “Boomers” of Training Squadron 27 (VT-27) in Corpus Christi, Texas for primary flight instructor duty in the T-34. There he served as Standardization Officer and was recognized as Instructor Pilot of the Year.
Commander Taylor transferred to USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD-6) in 2006 where he served as Safety Officer and qualified as Officer of the Deck Underway. He deployed as an individual augmentee to Afghanistan Regional Security Integration Command-South in Kandahar, Afghanistan. After transitioning to the MH-60S in 2009, Commander Taylor was assigned to the “Blackjacks” of Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron 21 (HSC-21) in San Diego, California. He served as Operations Officer and deployed as Officer in Charge of the 2515th Naval Air Ambulance Detachment on Camp Buehring, Kuwait.
In 2011, Commander Taylor reported to U.S. Strategic Command in Omaha, Nebraska, where he served as Executive Assistant to the Deputy Director for Nuclear Operations. He attended Creighton University and received a Master’s Degree in Business Administration.
Commander Taylor has accumulated over 3,000 flight hours. His personal awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal (Strike/Flight), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (3), Army Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (3), as well as various campaign and unit awards.
Commander Taylor and his wife Lesley reside in Norfolk, Virginia with their two sons.
