CAPTAIN MICHAEL W. ZARKOWSKI
UNITED STATES NAVY
Captain Zarkowski was born in Camden, New Jersey and grew up in Bucks County, Pennsylvania. He enlisted in the Naval Reserve in 1984 and served at NAS Willow Grove, Pennsylvania. During his enlistment he attended and graduated from Millersville University (Pennsylvania) in June 1987 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration. Zarkowski was commissioned in November 1987 through Aviation Officer Candidate School in Pensacola, Florida, and was designated an Aeronautical Maintenance Duty Officer in 1988.
Captain Zarkowski attended the Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, California, where he received his Master of Science Degree in Material Logistics Support Management in June 1998. He was designated an Acquisition Professional Community member in 1999.
Captain Zarkowski’s fleet operation responsibilities and tours include Maintenance Material Control Officer of Airborne Early Warning Squadron ONE TWENTY THREE (Screwtops); Avionics Division Officer at Aircraft Intermediate Maintenance Department (AIMD) onboard Naval Air Station Norfolk; Maintenance Material Control Officer and Assistant Maintenance Officer for Fighter Squadron THIRTY TWO (Swordsmen); Air Wing Maintenance Officer (CAGMO) of Carrier Air Wing SEVENTEEN; Aircraft Intermediate Maintenance Department Officer (AIMDO) onboard USS HARRY S. TRUMAN (CVN 75); and Assistant Chief of Staff for Logistics (FlagMO) of Commander, Strike Force Training Atlantic. During these assignments, he made multiple deployments to the North Atlantic, Mediterranean Sea, Adriatic Sea, Arabian Sea and Persian Gulf in support of Operations DESERT STORM, ENDURING FREEDOM and IRAQI FREEDOM onboard USS AMERICA (CV 66), USS DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER (CVN 69), USS GEORGE WASHINGTON (CVN 73) and USS HARRY S. TRUMAN (CVN 75).
Captain Zarkowski’s acquisition tours include Consolidated Automated Support Systems (CASS) Deputy Program manager for the Electro-Optics Plus, PMA-260; Aide to the Commander, Naval Air Systems Command (VADM John Lockard and VADM Joseph Dyer); Systems Engineering Integrated Product Team Lead (Logistics), Joint Strike Fighter Program Office; and Assistant Chief of Staff for Aviation Material Readiness and Support Equipment, Commander, Naval Air Force, Atlantic Fleet. Captain Zarkowski is currently assigned as Commanding Officer, Fleet Readiness Center Mid-Atlantic.
Captain Zarkowski earned his Professional Aviation Maintenance Officer Wings, and has been awarded the Legion of Merit, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (4 awards), Navy/Marine Corps Commendation Medal (3 awards), Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Battle Efficiency Award (Command Award) (2 awards), and the Thomas Hudner Leadership Award.
