  Captain Daniel W. Dwyer, USN
Commander, Carrier Air Wing EIGHT
 
  Captain Dwyer is a native of Alameda, Calif. and a 1988 graduate of the California Maritime Academy with a Bachelor of Science in Marine Transportation and a Third Mates License in the Merchant Marine.  He received his Wings of Gold in March 1992 in Meridian, Miss., and orders to fly the F/A-18C in Lemoore, Calif.
 
  CAPT Dwyer's command tours include, from May 2006 to August 2007, Commanding Officer VFA-27 "The Royal Maces", Forward-Deployed to NAF Atsugi, Japan; flying the F-18E Super Hornet assigned to CVW-5 aboard USS Kitty Hawk (CV 63).  During his command tour the Royal Macces were awarded the CNAF Battle "E", McClusky Award for best attack squadron, CNO Safety "S", CSFWP Bruce Carrier Award "Golden Wrench", and Pac Fleet Golden Anchor Award for Sailor Retention.  From March 2008 to March 2009, following training at Fort Bragg, N.C., he served as Commanding Officer of Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT) Kunar Province, Afghanistan, with a follow on tour at Headquarters International Security and Assistance Force (ISAF), as Director of HQ ISAF PRT Office, overseeing governance and development operations of all 26 PRTs in Afghanistan.  From June 2009 to December 2010 he served as Commanding Officer of VFA-106, the F-18 Fleet Replacement Squadron (FRS) homeported at NAS Oceana, Va.  CAPT Dwyer was selected for Major Command and reported to Carrier Air Wing 8 in December 2010 and assumed command in May 2012.
 
  CAPT Dwyer's other at-sea tours include two tours with VFA-151 Vigilantes assigned to CVW-2 aboard USS Constellation (CV 64).
 
  CAPT Dwyer's shore tours include, following graduation from TOPGUN Class 97-1, assignment as SFTI at Strike Fighter Weapons School Pacific where CAPT Dwyer was selected as the 1997 Commander Strike Fighter Wing U.S. Pacific Fleet Admiral Wesley McDonald Junior Officer of the Year.  Subsequent tours as the Hornet Air Combat Placement Officer (p433a) Naval Personnel Command Millington, Tenn., and U.S. Naval War College Newport, R.I.  CAPT Dwyer holds a Master of Arts in Foreign Affairs and Strategic Studies and a Master of Science in Computer Information Science.
 
  CAPT Dwyer's decorations include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, Air Medal Strike/Flight, Combat Action Ribbon, Battle E (3 awards), and has accumulated over 3000 F-18 flight hours, and over 1000 carrier arrested landings on 11 different aircraft carriers.
