CMDCM Willie R. Washington, USN
Command Master Chief , Carrier Air Wing EIGHT
CMDCM(AW/SW) Washington was born in Philadelphia, PA. He attended High School at Mastbaum VOTECH, and graduated in June of 1983. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1984, and attended Recruit Training at RTC Great Lakes, IL.
After RTC he reported to USS CORAL SEA (CV 43). He was promoted to Aviation Boatswain’s Mate Handler Third Class in June 1985. Two years passed, and in June of 1987 he reported onboard USS RALEIGH (LPD 1) where he served as a Landing Signalmen Enlisted; he was promoted to Petty Officer Second Class in December 1990.
January 1991, he reported to Naval Air Station Norfolk, VA. Assigned as a flight line supervisor; he was promoted to First Class Petty Officer. In 1993, he reported onboard USS WASP (LHD 1), and served for four years as the Flight Deck and Crash & Salvage Leading Petty Officer. He was selected to Chief Petty Officer in September 1994.
CMDCM(AW/SW) Washington reported to Naval Auxiliary Landing Field Fentress in 1997, he served as Assistant Officer in charge; after completing two years at NALF, he was assigned to USS HARRY S. TRUMAN (CVN 75) in 1999, where he served as the Flight Deck LCPO. He was advanced to Senior Chief Petty Officer in May 2002. He transferred July 2003 to the Center for Naval Leadership, Learning Site Little Creek, VA, where he was assigned as a facilitator for Advanced Enlisted Leadership Training; he was selected to Master Chief Petty Officer in April 2006.
In July 2006 CMDCM(AW/SW) Washington was assigned to USS DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER (CVN 69) as Air Department’s Leading Chief Petty Officer. He was selected for the Command Master Chief Program in February 2007, and his first assignment as Command Master Chief was VFA 131 Wildcats until April 2010. He was then selected to serve as the Command Master Chief for Fleet Readiness Center Mid-Atlantic Region until April 2012. He now serves as the Command Master Chief for Carrier Air Wing Eight. CMDCM(AW/SW) Washington’s personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (6 awards), Navy Achievement Medal (4 awards) Battle “E”, Good Conduct Medal (six awards), Southwest Asia Service Medal, NATO Medal, Kuwait Liberation (Kuwait).
