CMDCM(AW/SW) Kenneth Alvarado
Command Master Chief , Carrier Air Wing EIGHT   

Command Master Chief (Aviation Warfare/Surface Warfare) Kenneth Alvarado hails from Aguirre, Puerto Rico. He enlisted in the Navy in June 1985 through the American English Language Training (AELT) program and reported to Recruit Training Command, Orlando, FL in October 1985 for recruit training and seaman apprenticeship.

In March 1986, Seaman Apprentice Alvarado reported to the USS SAIPAN (LHA 2) in Norfolk, VA. During this tour, he struck into the Aviation Boatswain’s Mate (Fuel) rating and advanced to Petty Officer 2nd Class. In July 1989, ABF2 Alvarado reported to Naval Station Roosevelt Roads, Puerto Rico for his first overseas tour during which he advanced to Petty Officer 1st Class.

In September 1993, he returned to sea aboard the USS THEODORE ROOSEVELT (CVN 71), homeported in Norfolk, VA where he earned his Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist qualification and deployed in support of Operations DENY FLIGHT and SOUTHERN WATCH. In December 1995, ABF1 (AW) Alvarado returned to Naval Station Roosevelt Roads for a second overseas tour.

In July 1999, ABF1 (AW) Alvarado transferred to Naval Air Station Patuxent River, MD where he was selected for promotion to Chief Petty Officer. In January 2002, ABFC (AW) Alvarado returned to sea on board the USS AUSTIN (LPD 4) as the Air Department LCPO and Fuels Officer. In this tour he earned his Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist qualification, promoted to Senior Chief Petty Officer, and completed two combat deployments in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM.

In December 2005, ABFCS (AW/SW) Alvarado reported to Naval Air Station Oceana, VA. Shortly thereafter he was reassigned to the Regional Supply Office as the Senior Enlisted Advisor. In December 2008, he returned for a second tour aboard the USS THEODORE ROOSEVELT (CVN 71) and deployed in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM. In April 2009 he advanced to Master Chief Petty Officer and was assigned to the USS CARL VINSON (CVN 70) where he deployed in support of Operation UNIFIED RESPONSE.

In May 2010, ABCM (AW/SW) Alvarado reported to the Navy’s newest carrier, the USS GEORGE H. W. BUSH (CVN 77), based in Norfolk, VA as the V-2 LCPO. While there, he was selected to the Navy’s Command Master Chief Program and in June 2011, CMDCM (AW/SW) Alvarado reported for duty as the Command Master Chief for the “Bear Aces” of Carrier Airborne Early Warning Squadron ONE TWO FOUR (VAW-124).

Master Chief Alvarado is a graduate of the U.S. Navy Senior Enlisted Academy (Class 136/Brown) and the Command Master Chief Course in Newport, R.I. He holds a Baccalaureate Degree in Criminal Justice from Columbia College. His personal awards include the Meritorious Service Medal (two awards), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (six awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (five awards), and various unit and campaign awards.
