Captain David Little assumed his role as Deputy Commander Carrier Air Wing in June 2014. A native of Glens Falls, NY, Captain Little was commissioned in June 1991 upon graduation from the United States Naval Academy and was designated a naval aviator in June 1995.
His Commanding Officer tour was with the DIAMONDBACKS of Strike Fighter Squadron 102, forward deployed to NAF Atsugi, Japan and onboard USS Kitty Hawk (CV 63) and the USS George Washington (CVN 73). During his command tour, the DIAMONDBACKS earned the 2009 Commander, Naval Air Forces Pacific Fleet F/A-18E/F Battle Efficiency (“E”) award. Other operational fleet assignments include Strike Fighter Squadron 115 onboard USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72) and Strike Fighter Squadron 151 onboard USS Constellation (CV 64). Captain Little has flown combat missions in support of Operation SOUTHERN WATCH, ENDURING FREEDOM and IRAQI FREEDOM.
Shore duty assignments include Chief of the Inspection Branch, Inspector General Directorate and Deputy Executive Assistant to the Deputy Commander of USNORTHCOM, Placement Officer at the Naval Personnel Command where he managed manning for the single-seat Super Hornet and Hornet communities, student at the U.S. Naval War College, and tactics instructor pilot with the Strike Fighter Weapons School Pacific and Strike Fighter Squadron 122.
Captain Little is a graduate from the Navy Fighter Weapons School (TOPGUN), has earned a Master of Science in Strategic Intelligence from the U.S. Defense Intelligence College and earned a Master of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies from the U.S. Naval War College where he graduated with distinction.
His decorations include the Joint Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Individual Air Medal with Combat Distinguishing Device, three Air Medal Strike/Flight Medals, four Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals (one with a Combat Distinguishing Device), the Joint Service Achievement Medal, four Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals, three Battle “E” awards, and numerous other unit and campaign awards.
