Captain Brent M. Blackmer
CAPT Brent Blackmer, born and raised in Portland, Maine, graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in 1994. While at the Academy he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in political science, graduating with honors, while wrestling for four years.
CAPT Blackmer received his Naval Aviator wings in February of 1997 and twice deployed with VS-22 flying the S-3B Viking. “Stretch” earned his Wing landing signal officer (LSO) qualification and he was named the Pilot of the Year for the East Coast Viking Fleet in consecutive years, 1999 and 2000. He transitioned to the F/A-18C in April 2001.
Later that year he joined VFA-131 and twice deployed, flying combat missions in support of Operations IRAQI FREEDOM, ENDURING FREEDOM (OIF/OEF) and contingency ops in the Horn of Africa. Upon fleeting up to Department Head he served as Safety Officer, Maintenance Officer and Operations Officer.
In September 2007 CAPT Blackmer reported to the Joint Staff, Operations Directorate, J-3, at the National Military Command Center where he served as Assistant Deputy Director for Operations.
Upon completion of his 22 month tour he reported to the RAGIN BULLS of VFA-37 as Executive Officer in April 2010 where he conducted combat sorties in OEF and NEW DAWN. In July 2011 he became the 37th Commanding Officer of VFA-37.
In October 2012 he reported to OPNAV Staff, N98 Directorate for Air Warfare as the Hornet Requirements Officer (RO) and later assumed additional duties as the Joint Strike Fighter RO as well.
In July 2013 “Stretch” was selected for Bonus Command and joined the GLADIATORS of VFA-106 as Commanding Officer where he orchestrated the efforts of 1250 personnel executing 21,500 flight hours per year while serving as the Navy’s premier fleet replacement squadron.
In March 2015 CAPT Blackmer reported to Commander, Naval Air Force Atlantic as the Assistant Chief of Staff for Air Wing Training and Readiness, N40, until his selection as Prospective Air Wing Commander, CVW-1.
CAPT Blackmer flew 4000 hours and piloted 930 carrier arrestments on nine aircraft carriers. He attributes his success and any awards to the tremendous men and women with whom he served. He is married to Dr. Shannon Blackmer and has four kids Nico, Sasha, Sean and Kelly.
