Congratulations on your orders to USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72)! The Lincoln is America’s fifth Nimitz-class aircraft carrier and is home ported in Norfolk, VA.  Your assignment on Abraham Lincoln will be both gratifying and rewarding. The talents you bring on board will be well utilized. New Sailors reporting for their first sea duty assignment will be sent to the Indoctrination Division. You can contact the leading chief petty officer by e-mail: IDIV@cvn72.navy.mil, for more information.  Second class petty officers and above will report to their assigned departments, be introduced to their mentor and be scheduled for a senior indoctrination class.

Directions & Transportation to Naval Station Norfolk (NSN)

Norfolk lies approximately 90 miles southeast of Richmond. To the north are Washington, D.C., (185 miles), Baltimore (210 miles), and New York City (330 miles). Norfolk is about 18 miles from the Atlantic Ocean and is bordered by the Chesapeake Bay and Hampton Roads Harbor. Norfolk serves as the nucleus for the metropolitan area of approximately 1.4 million people.

Personnel flying into the Newport News/Williamsburg International Airport should report to the airport Information Booth for directions to Naval Station Norfolk. Taxi fees from the airport to Naval Station Norfolk are as much as $55.00.

If driving from Richmond - Take I-64 East through the Peninsula consisting of Williamsburg, Newport News, and Hampton. Interstate I-64 will continue to the Southside through the Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel. The Naval Base exit is approximately two miles after the tunnel. Take I-564 three miles to Admiral Taussig Blvd. Gates 1 and 2 of the Naval Base are located at the intersection of Admiral Taussig Blvd. and Hampton Blvd.

If driving from North of D.C. - Take Route 13 South from the Southside of Wilmington Delaware. Follow 13 down the length of the Delmarva Peninsula to the Chesapeake Bay Bridge and Tunnel. Cross the Bay Bridge and Tunnel and you will be in Norfolk. The cost of the Bay Bridge and Tunnel system is $12.00 one way.

If driving from the South - Take interstate 95 north into Virginia to route 58 in Emporia. Route 58 will bring you into Norfolk.

If you are arriving by air via Norfolk International Airport, the least expensive way to get to NSN is by calling the quarterdeck at (757) 322-2366 and we will come pick you up. If you call in advance and let us know what airline and time you are arriving, the van will probably be waiting outside baggage claim.

You may also take an airport shuttle. Shuttle Express, (800) 487-7433 or www.shuttleexpress.com, offers one-way fares for approximately $39.    Another shuttle service, (888) 622-3400, offers one-way fares for approximately $69.

USO/ASYMCA Welcome Center the Norfolk Airport USO lounge, located on the second floor of the main concourse, is proud to provide space to these organizations for an expansive USO/ASYMCA Welcome Center located on the second level of the Arrivals Terminal (baggage claim). The lounge, available for use by active duty and retired military and their families, offers a place to relax, read, watch television, play games, grab a snack and access the internet.
