Congratulations on your orders to STRIKE FIGHTER SQUADRON ONE THREE ONE (VFA 131)! We want to take this opportunity to welcome you to "AIRLANT'S First and Finest" Hornet squadron. We eagerly anticipate your arrival, and look forward to having you on the WILDCAT team. All reporting personnel are strongly encouraged to read the Wildcat Owner's Manual. In this manual you can find the policies, expectations (both for you and the command), and the history of the command.
If you are entitled to movement of dependants and household goods, the government will fund such movement to Norfolk, Virginia. Because the assignment is designated by SECNAV as arduous sea duty, you may also elect to have HHG's shipped to a location you designate in the continental United States. You can find out more about the Norfolk military community at the Commander, Naval Region Mid-Atlantic website Region Mid-Atlantic website.
When we are not at sea or on detachment, STRIKE FIGHTER SQUADRON ONE THREE ONE calls NAS Oceana's Hangar 111 its home. If we are not in port then check in with TPU/Beach Detachment at Naval Station Norfolk. You are encouraged to report between the hours of 0700 to 1600. If you use any commercial transportation or taxi service en-route to us, be sure to save all receipts for reimbursement on your travel claim. Uniform of the Day is required when checking onboard. Directions to NAS Oceana can be found here.
When we receive your orders, you will be assigned a command sponsor who will be available to answer any questions you may have and/or to assist you in any way possible. Please advise your sponsor of your expected arrival date and any assistance you may require. We urge you to contact the squadron if you do not hear from your sponsor within a couple of weeks of receiving your orders. You can contact the command sponsor program coordinator at VFA131_OCEN_SPONSOR@navy.mil If you send an e-mail to this address please include the following information: Full Name/Rate, Expected Date of Arrival, Full Mailing address where you can receive regular mail, alternate e-mail addresses and family status.
