COMMANDER DENNIS J. VIGEANT

Commander Vigeant was born in San Jose, California and enlisted in the Navy in 1990.  He entered the Navy Reserve Officer Training Corps (NROTC) program at the University of Colorado following completion of the Broadened Opportunity for Officer Selection and Training Program (BOOST) program in San Diego, California.  He received a degree in American History and was commissioned in 1995.  His Naval Flight Training took place in Pensacola, Florida and Corpus Christi, Texas where he was designated as a Naval Aviator in August 1997.  He completed Fleet Replacement Training in the SH-60F/HH-60H Seahawk helicopter at Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron TEN (HS-10), Naval Station North Island, California. Upon completion of this training, Commander Vigeant was assigned to Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron SEVEN (HS-7) in Jacksonville, Florida.  During his time he deployed aboard USS ENTERPRISE (CVN 65) and USS TRUMAN (CVN 65) in support of Operation SOUTHERN WATCH and Operation DESERT FOX. 

          CDR Vigeant reported back to HS-10 in February 2002 as an instructor pilot.  While on this tour he earned an MS in Global Leadership from the University of San Diego.  He also graduated from the Seahawk Weapons and Tactics Instructor course in Fallon, Nevada.  In July of 2004 Commander Vigeant reported to Commander, Carrier Group ONE, later renamed Commander Strike Force Training Pacific, as Flag Lieutenant. In July 2005, he reported to Helicopter Sea Combat Weapons School, Pacific as the Tactics Officer.  While on this tour CDR Vigeant completed Joint Professional Military Education Phase I from the Air Force Command and Staff College via distance learning.

          In July 2006, Commander Vigeant reported to Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron EIGHT (HS-8) where he served as the Administrative Officer and Maintenance Officer deploying aboard  USS JOHN C STENNIS (CVN 74) to the Arabian Gulf and the Arabian Sea in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM and Operation EDURING FREEDOM.  While on this tour HS-8 transitioned to Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron EIGHT (HSC-8) and began flying the MH-60S helicopter.  In October 2008, he was assigned to United States Strategic Command, Joint Functional Component Command Global Strike as an operations analyst and deputy division chief.  He reported to Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron FIVE (HS-5) as the Executive Officer in May 2011.  Commander Vigeant has accumulated over 3300 flight hours.  He currently resides in Virginia Beach, Virginia with his wife Amy and their five children.
