                                                               WELCOME ABOARD

We were pleased to recently receive notification of your orders to the world famous “NIGHTDIPPERS” of Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron FIVE (HS 5).  I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you aboard.  As your Commanding Officer, I can assure you that your talents and experiences will be welcomed.  I know you will find your tour with the “NIGHTDIPPERS” challenging, yet rewarding.

The “NIGHTDIPPERS” have a long and proud history.  We were established in 1956 and were the first squadron to employ dipping sonar at night.  HS-5 is one of seven squadrons that comprise Carrier Air Wing SEVEN (CVW-7), currently attached to the USS DWIGHT D. EISENHOWER (CVN-69).  We are assigned seven SH-60F/HH-60H helicopters, with approximately 24 officers and 162 enlisted troops.  Our missions include Anti-Submarine Warfare, Combat Search and Rescue, Naval Special Warfare, Anti-Surface Warfare, Logistics, and Vertical Replenishment.  As you can see, we are an operational squadron and we take pride in our ability to accomplish all of our missions well.

HS-5 is currently stationed in Norfolk, VA. Norfolk is a great place to live, offering unlimited opportunity for professional development, personal growth and recreation.  Please visit the following website: http://www.cnic.navy.mil/norfolksta for great information about Norfolk and the local area.
