Captain Mark A. Joynt

A native of Norfolk, Virginia, Captain Mark Joynt graduated from the Virginia Military Institute in May of 1989 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. He was designated a Naval Aviator in October of 1990.
Operationally, he served as AV ARM Division Officer and Tactics Officer aboard HELMINERON FOURTEEN (HM-14); Instructor Pilot, Airframes Division Officer, Assistant Operations Officer aboard MARINE HELICOPTER TRAINING SQUADRON 302 (HMT-302); Air Officer aboard USS PONCE (LPD-15); Safety, MCM Maintenance and Aircraft Maintenance Officer aboard HELMINERON FIFTEEN (HM-15) and Commanding Officer HELMINERON FOURTEEN (HM-14). During his command tour, HM-14 deployed in support of Theater Security Cooperation (TSC) initiatives in both SOUTHCOM and PACOM areas of responsibility and established a permanent forward deployed Airborne Mine Countermeasures (AMCM) detachment in Pohang, Korea.
In Staff assignments ashore, Captain Joynt served as Air Combat Placement Officer in Navy Personnel Command; Current Operations Officer in Joint Enabling Capabilities Command and as Expeditionary Capabilities Division Head (N85) in U.S. Fleet Forces Command.
A Joint Qualified Officer, Captain Joynt is a graduate of the United States Marine Corps Command and Staff College and the Joint Forces Staff College.
He is most proud of the unit awards of the commands he has served including three Battle Efficiency Awards and several Navy and meritorious unit commendations. His personal awards include the Joint Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (with combat distinguishing device) and Navy Achievement Medal.
Captain Joynt resides in Virginia Beach with his wife Karen and two sons, Preston and Max.
