1985 Capt. Jackson enlisted in the Navy and attended the Broadened Opportunity for Officer Selection and Training (BOOST) Program. He holds a Bachelor of Arts and Science Degree in Industrial Studies from San Diego State University and a Master of Science in Defense Analysis through the Naval Postgraduate School’s Special Operations/Low Intensity Conflict (SOLIC) curriculum along with the associated sub-specialty. His Master’s thesis was on Cultural Immersion for NSW and SOF Applications.
Jackson’s early operational assignments were as an Aviation Maintenance Duty Officer with the Shadows of Fleet Air Reconnaissance Squadron FOUR (VQ-4) January 1993 to January 1996 and a carrier deployment with the Stingers of Fighter Attack Squadron ONE ONE THREE (VFA-113) January 1996 to January 1997. During the VFA-113 tour he applied for and was selected for Basic Underwater Demolition/SEALs (BUDS) training. In December of 1997, at the age of 31, he graduated with BUDS Class 214 and began his Naval Special Warfare (NSW) career.
Jackson’s tours in NSW include SEAL Team FIVE Platoon Commander and Naval Special Warfare Command (CNSWC) N5X Joint Experimentation/War Gaming. Joint SOF Tours include: An overseas tour with Special Operations Command Korea (SOCKOR) as the SOJ3 JCS-ROK Exercises/ROK NSW-SOF LNO; Special Operations Command Central (SOCCENT) as the J3Theater Security Cooperation (TSC)/Operations Planning Team Chief; and the Combined Forces Special Operations Component Command (CFSOCC) J3 Current Operations Chief supporting numerous SOF combat missions for Operations Iraqi Freedom/Enduring Freedom, real world CENTCOM AOR contingency operations, and multiple TSC events.
In October 2001, while at CNSWC, Jackson was selected for the Full Time Support Program. Following his SOCKOR tour, he served as the Commanding Officer of Navy Operational Support Center (NOSC) Charlotte, North Carolina from December 2005 until August 2008. In September of 2010, after his SOCCENT tour including several CFSOCC deployments, he returned to Navy Region Mid-Atlantic Reserve Component Command in as the Chief Staff Officer supporting 31 NOSCs, 550 NR Units, and nearly 12,000 AC/RC Personnel. Jackson served a second successful command tour as the NOSC Earle, NJ Commanding Officer from May 2013 until December 2014. He served as a Navy Strategist in the OPNAV Strategy Branch (N502) as the section leader for the Navy Strategic Enterprise (NSE). He is currently serving as the Commanding Officer of the Expeditionary Combat Readiness Center (ECRC).
Jackson has earned the Naval Special Warfare Trident, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal (3), the Joint Commendation Medal, the Navy Commendation Medal (2), the Joint Achievement Medal, the Navy Achievement Medal (2), and various unit citations/deployment/qualification decorations.
