Rear Admiral Brian J. Brakke was commissioned through the Navy ROTC program at Florida State University as an ensign in April 1984, and was promoted to his current rank in July 2014.

Brakke has served as the chief of staff for Navy Expeditionary Combat Command Pacific; chief staff officer for Explosive Ordnance Disposal Group 2; deputy division head for strategic deployments, operations directorate, United States Central Command; commander of EOD Mobile Unit 6; ordnance officer at Naval Weapons Station; deputy director of the JIEDDO Capability Acquisition Center; OPNAV Expeditionary Combat Branch head (N957); commander of Commander Task Force 52; commanding officer of Naval Explosive Ordnance Disposal Technology Division; commander of Mine Countermeasures Squadron 3; executive officer of EOD Mobile Unit 8; EOD officer and contingency planner on the staff of the commander, U.S. Naval Forces Europe and Africa/U.S. 6th Fleet; officer in charge of an EOD contingency detachment, mine countermeasures detachment; operations officer at EOD Mobile Unit 2; and main propulsion assistant and first lieutenant onboard USS Oldendorf.

In his most recent assignment, Brakke served as the deputy director for Operations/Intelligence Integration, Joint Improvised Explosive Device Defeat Organization, and director of the Counter-IED Operation/Intelligence Integration Center.

His military education includes Basic Dive Officer School, Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal School, Surface Warfare Officer’s School and Gas Turbine Engineering Officer of the Watch School.

Brakke has a master’s degree in national security strategy from the National War College and a Bachelor of Science in biology from Florida State University.

Brakke’s awards include the Defense Superior Service Medal (two awards), Legion of Merit (three awards), Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (three awards), Navy Commendation Medal (six awards) and Navy Achievement medal (two awards).
