Commander Christine Brashear graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in May 2000, and then attended Surface Warfare Officer School (SWOS) in Newport, Rhode Island. Upon completion of SWOS, she reported to pre-commissioning unit (PCU) IWO JIMA (LHD 7) in Pascagoula, Mississippi as Auxiliaries Division Officer. She was part of USS IWO JIMA’s commissioning crew in 2001, and in 2003, completed the ship’s maiden deployment to the Mediterranean Sea and Arabian Gulf. She also served as Main Propulsion Division Officer and Gunnery Officer while onboard USS IWO JIMA (LHD 7).
In September 2003, she reported to Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) in Monterey, California. While there she earned her Master’s Degree in Information Technology Management, and completed Joint Professional Military Education Phase I.
Following NPS and Department Head School in Newport, Rhode Island, Brashear reported in September 2006 to USS WINSTON S. CHURCHILL (DDG 81) for her first Department Head tour as Weapons Officer. In May 2008, she fleeted up to Combat Systems Officer. While on USS WINSTON S. CHURCHILL, she completed two training cycles and an extended deployment to the Arabian Gulf, Horn of Africa, and Mediterranean Sea.
In January 2009, Brashear reported to Commander, U.S. SECOND Fleet where she served as Flag Aide/Protocol Officer. After a two year tour at U.S. SECOND Fleet, she was accepted to the Full Time Support Human Resources Community. In March 2011, she reported to Commander Navy Reserve Forces Command (CNRFC) as the Navy Reserve Force Information Assurance Officer (IAM)/N64 Division Director, where she served for three years. She transferred in May 2014 to U.S. Fleet Forces Command, where she served as Deputy Director, Fleet Personnel Programs (N1Z) for two years. She briefly served as the N6 Department Head at Region-Mid Atlantic Reserve Component Command Norfolk before transferring to Expeditionary Readiness Combat Command (ECRC) as executive officer in April 2017.
Brashear’s personal awards include the Navy Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal and Navy Achievement Medal. She was awarded the Navy and Marine Association Leadership Award in 2008 during her second department head tour, and was a 2008 Naval Surface Forces “Tactician of the Year” finalist. She holds the Professional Human Resources (PHR) certification, the Global Information Assurance Certification in Security Leadership (GSLC), and CompTIA Security+ certification.
