Captain Freeman received his commission in 1991 after completing Aviation Officer Candidate School in Pensacola, FL. He was designated a Naval Flight Officer in 1992 and reported to VF-101 in NAS Oceana, VA for training in the F-14.

In 1993, he completed training at VF-101 and joined the VF-102 Diamondbacks. Captain Freeman made two deployments with the Diamondbacks aboard the USS America in the Mediterranean, Indian Ocean, and Arabian Gulf. Following his tour at VF-102, Captain Freeman was assigned to the Naval Strike and Air Warfare Center in Fallon, NV as a TOPGUN Instructor.

Captain Freeman returned to the VF-102 Diamondbacks in NAS Oceana in 2000 for his training officer tour. He deployed aboard the USS Theodore Roosevelt from September 2001 to March 2002 in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM. In September 2002, Captain Freeman reported to the VF-143 Pukin’ Dogs for his department head tour. While assigned to VF-143, he deployed to Al Udeid Air Base, Qatar and aboard the USS George Washington in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM.

In 2004, Captain Freeman reported to the Naval War College in Newport, RI where he received a Master of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies. He then transferred to the Joint Staff in Washington, DC where he served from 2005 until 2007.

Following his tour on the Joint Staff, Captain Freeman was assigned to Strike Fighter Weapons School Pacific where he served as Executive Officer and Commanding Officer from 2007 to 2010. He then transferred to USS Theodore Roosevelt where he served as Air Boss from 2010 to 2012.

Captain Freeman has accumulated over 2800 flight hours and over 500 arrested landings.
