Command Master Chief Expeditionary Combat Readiness Center
A native of Eufaula, Alabama, Master Chief Watson began his naval career in August 1983. He attended recruit training at RTC Great Lakes and ABH “A” school training at Lakehurst, NJ. He reported to USS RANGER (CV-61) home ported in San Diego, CA in November 1983 where he served until July 1987. His next assignment was Air Department, Naval Air Station Pensacola, FL. He separated from active duty June 1990.
In May 1991, Master Chief Watson affiliated with the Naval Reserve. He reported to Naval Air Station Atlanta, GA with assignments to NR USS SARATOGA (CV-60) then to NR NAS Whiting Field in 1994, serving in several different training and leadership roles, advancing to Chief in 1996. In February 1999, he transferred to Fleet Logistics Support Squadron FOUR SIX (VR-46), qualified as Naval Aircrew man and served as Line Division Chief. Due to job relocation, he reported to LEPSU 0188 at NARCEN Denver CO, serving as Training Dept. LCPO. In 2001, he advanced to Senior Chief and returned to NAS Atlanta and VR-46 where he qualified as Loadmaster and served as Training LCPO and Maintenance SCPO until 2005.
Master Chief Watson mobilized with VR-46 in March 2003 to support OIF/OEF. He was selected to serve as Commander Fleet Logistics Support Wing (CFLSW) Liaison at NAS Sigonella, Sicily. He advanced to Master Chief in March 2006 and again mobilized in April 2006 to Naval Coastal Warfare, Mobile Security Squadron 2. He served as Senior Enlisted Leader (SEL) for Embarked Security Detachment 223 (ESD-223) forward deployed to 5th Fleet AOR. In June 2007, Master Chief Watson reported on mobilization orders to COMNAVELSG. He served as SEL for the establishment of the NAVELSG Training and Evaluation Unit (TEU) where he remained until June 2009. He reported to VTU 0607 in February 2014. He previously served as Navy Reserve Element, SEL at NR Joint Staff-South from November 2011 to February 2014 and as Command Master Chief for Navy Cargo Handling Battalion TEN (NCHB-10) located at Naval Weapons Station Yorktown from October 2009 to November 2011.
Master Chief Watson is a graduate of the Command Master Chief School, Senior Enlisted Academy, and Naval Leadership Course for LPO’s and Chiefs. He holds several NECs to include 9580, 9502, 0812, 8278, 8289, and 9545.
Master Chief Watson’s personal awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy Commendation Medal (2), the Joint Service Achievement Medal, and the Navy Achievement Medal (6) along with various service and campaign awards.
Master Chief Watson holds a Bachelor of Science from Auburn University in Criminal Justice and is currently pursuing a Master of Public Administration at Columbus State University.
Master Chief Watson served 15 years as a certified law enforcement officer in the State of Georgia. He is currently employed by the Department of the Navy and serves as the Training and Readiness (N7) Deputy Director and Learning Standards Officer (LSO) at NAVELSG located on Cheatham Annex, Williamsburg, VA. He lives in Providence Forge, VA with his wife Jill, they have no children.
