Commanding Officer

Captain Adam Lyons
Commander, Naval Network Warfare Command

CAPT Lyons is a California native born in La Mesa and raised in San Dimas.  He is a 1994 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Political Science.  He graduated with honors from University of Maryland with a Masters of Science in Management Information Systems in 2002, and a Master of Arts with distinction in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College in 2006.  A plank owner of the Information Professional Community, he is qualified as an Advanced Information Professional, Information Warfare Officer, Surface Warfare Officer, and Joint Qualified Officer.
 
Fleet assignments include Computer Systems Officer to Commander, SEVENTH Fleet; Forward Deployed Naval Forces serving as Gunnery Officer, Auxiliaries Officer, Main Propulsion Assistant, and Assistant Engineer aboard USS HEWITT (DD 966) and Assistant Operations Officer USS BUNKER HILL (CG 52); Flag Communications Officer/Deputy N6 in Commander, Carrier Strike Group THREE embarked on USS JOHN C. STENNIS (CVN 74); and Deputy Director of Communications and Information Systems (N6), Naval Forces Europe, Naval Forces Africa, and U.S. SIXTH Fleet.  He served with distinction in support of OPERATIONS NORTHERN & SOUTHERN WATCH, DESERT FOX, IRAQI and ENDURING FREEDOM.
 
Shore assignments include Naval Education & Training Center (NETC), Newport, Rhode Island; C4 Concept Development & Experimentation Lead, Navy Warfare Development Command (NWDC); Chief, Theater Communications (J636) in charge of satellite communications (SATCOM), Joint Frequency Management Office-North (JFMO-N), and communications security (COMSEC) at NORAD & USNORTHCOM; Commanding Officer, Naval Computer and Telecommunications Station Guam; and interim Commanding Officer, Naval Computer and Telecommunications Station Sicily, Italy.  Noted accomplishments include leading innovative efforts in the areas of information & knowledge management, command and control and advanced networking, providing critical Command, Control, Communications, and Computers (C4) operational planning and execution to contingencies including Hurricane Ike and Gustav, all National Special Security Events,  theater engagement events with Mexico and Canada, providing communications transport throughout the Western Pacific and Indian Ocean for all DoD and other government organizations,  and network capabilities and security for Navy organizations in Guam.
 
CAPT Lyons came to Task Force 1010 and NAVNETWARCOM from Fleet Cyber Command/ Commander TENTH Fleet where he has served as Director, Defensive Cyber Operations and Department of Defense Information Network Operations (N35/N36), Deputy Assistant Chief of Staff for Operations Officer and Deputy Maritime Operations Center Director.
 
CAPT Lyons’ personal awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Navy Commendation Medal, Navy Achievement Medal, and various unit and campaign decorations.
