LCDR Steve J. Sollon was born and raised in Baltimore, MD. Upon graduating High School in 1995 he attended the Naval Academy Prep School, completing the course of instruction and receiving an appointment to the Naval Academy. He received his Commission and degree in Computer Science in May of 2000. He initially service selected submarines but eventually transferred to Information Warfare.
After attending the Naval Cryptologic Officer’s Basic Course, ENS Sollon was stationed at the National Security Group Activity Maryland from 2001-2004. He served in the National Security Operations Center, the Information Warfare Support Center, and was Division Officer for 25 sailors. Upon completing his tour he PCSed to the USS Antietam (CG-54) out of San Diego in May of 2005.
LT Sollon deployed on Antietam in 2005 and 2007 to the Arabian Gulf. Between deployments he ran the Signals and Electronic Warfare division through a successful Inspection and Survey, as well as qualifying Officer of the Deck, Surface Warfare Officer and Tactical Action Officer. He transferred from Antietam in July 2007 to Naval Information Operations Command Hawaii (NIOC HI).
While at NIOC HI, LT Sollon was the Team Lead for the Submarine Team in the PACOM Branch. LT Sollon deployed on a 7-month Individual Augmentation to Afghanistan in 2008, working for the Combined Joint Special Operations Task Force as the Collection Management Chief. Upon his return from deployment he took over as Chief of the Network Analysis Center, conducting Computer Network Operations (CNO) in support of PACOM and was the Department Head for 100 Sailors. LCDR Sollon transferred from NIOC HI to a joint assignment with the Army’s XVIII Airborne Corp (ABC) as the SIGINT Advisor to the G2 in June 2010.
LCDR Sollon deployed in November of 2010 with XVIII ABC as the closeout Corp for US Forces Iraq were he served as the SIGINT Advisor to the J2 and oversaw the drawdown of all tactical SIGINT forces and equipment. LCDR Sollon also successfully completed Airborne School prior to deploying to Iraq. He returned from deployment in November of 2011, PCSing to Fleet Cyber Command/10th Fleet in February of 2012 where he served as a Battle Watch Captain, lead planner for the Cyber Mission Force where he led efforts in developing 40 Navy Cyber Mission Force teams supporting USCYBERCOM and the U.S. Navy, and finally as Deputy Cyber Fires Chief.
LCDR Sollon is married to the former Ms. Megan Hill of Westwood, MA. They have three children, James (6), Natalia (4), and Anastasia (1). His decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal (2), Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Commendation Medal (2), Joint Service Achievement Medal, the Navy Achievement Medal, and various other unit and personal awards. He is a qualified Information Warfare Officer, Surface Warfare Officer, and Basic Parachutist.
