Commander  B. “Leo” Paiz completed his Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science at California State University, Los Angeles. He taught high school for a year, before joining the Navy as a Student Pilot and earning his Ensign commission via Aviation OCS in Pensacola, FL in December 1992.  He earned his Aviator Wings in December 1994 after completing flight training in Milton, FL.

 Beginning in 1995, at NAS Jacksonville, FL, he completed fleet helicopter training and was assigned to Helicopter Sqaudron-3 (HS-3).  As part of HS-3, he completed two deployments on USS John F. Kennedy (CV-67), providing SAR and Anti-Submarine protection.  He reported to the VC-6 UAV Det in Patuxent River, MD, as a UAV Mission Commander in June 1998 and completed one deployment on USS Austin (LPD-4) and two land drug interdiction detachments, earning the Detachment a Battle ‘E’ and a Meritorious Unit Commendation, providing Pioneer UAV land and sea aerial intelligence.

 From August 2000 to Dec 2006, CDR Paiz earned Recruiter of the Year honors, in 2000, as part of Navy Recruiting District San Francisco; re-designated to the Information Professional (1820) community in 2003; awarded the Vice Admiral Mayo Award as part of NCTAMS EURCENT (Naples, Italy) in 2004; and earned his Master’s of Science in Systems Engineering in December 2006 at NPS.

CDR Paiz reported to Destroyer Squadron Two Six (CDS-26) in March 2007 as the Communications Officer (N6).  During this tour, he completed one deployment where he directly trained Royal Bahraini Navy Officers how to execute Combined Task Force operations and also included Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF), Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF), and the Global War On Terrorism (GWOT) within the 5th Fleet AOR.  In May 2009, he reported to Navy Expeditionary Combat Command as the Communications Deputy ACOS (N6), which included Echelon III level C4I support to Operation Unified Response and Combined Task Force 56 in the 5th Fleet AOR.

 From September 2010 to September 2011, he was assigned to NAVCENT in Bahrain, as the Communications Deputy ACOS (N6), providing direct operational C4I support to US and Coalition Navies that included OIF, OEF, GWOT, and Operation New Dawn.  In October 2011, CDR Paiz reported to TRIDENT Refit Facility Kings Bay, GA as the IT Department Director, where the command earned a Meritorious Unit Commendation.  He also led database and excepted-network operations, in support of east cost TRIDENT submarine maintenance.

CDR Paiz wears the Meritorious Service Medal (two awards), Navy Commendation Medal (four awards), Navy Achievement Medal (two awards), and various unit and campaign awards.
