Ensign Jon Michael Hammond is a native of Houston, Texas.    He enlisted in the Navy on October 10, 1995 and completed recruit training in Great Lakes, Illinois. Upon graduating from Aviation Ordanance “A” School in Millington, Tennessee in February 1996, he served his first tour onboard the USS GEORGE WASHINGTON in G-3’s Weapons Department home ported in Norfolk, Virginia as a Bomb Assembly team member.
 
In November 2000, he attended Cryptologic Technican Communication “A” School in Pensacola, Florida to cross rate from Aviation Ordanance.  After completing CTO “A”, CTO3 Hammond was stationed at NSGA Northwest, home ported in Chesapeake, Virginia; He served as a Cryptologic Support Element Supervisor.  NSGA Northwest was then moved to Norfolk, Virginia and was renamed NSGA Norfolk.  During his tour he deployed for 7 month onboard the USS SHREVEPORT.  He also deployed with Naval Special Warfare Group One as a Tactical Cryptologic Support Element in 2003.  In 2001 he was promoted to CTO2 and in 2003 he was promoted to CTO1 prior to transferring.

In February 2004 he reported to Navy Recruiting District Houston.  In 2005 he won Recruiter of the Year for NRD Houston.  In 2006 he was selected as Recruiter in Charge of the Year for the Nation; for his accomplishments he was advance to Chief through the Recruiter Excellence Incentive Program (REIP).

In May 2007, he reported to Naval Special Warfare Group Two Mobile Communication Team in Virginia Beach, Virginia as the LCPO for Seal Team Ten N6 department.  From March 2009 through September 2009 he deployed to Ramadi, Iraq where he oversaw a 15 man support team dispersed to 7 different geographical areas. 

In June 2010 he reported to Navy Cyber Forces in Virginia Beach, Va.  On November 2010 he was selected to go on a Individual Augmentation (IA) to Bagram, Afghanistan for 230 days to support 101st Airborne and 1st Calvary.  In March 2012 he was selected for Limited Duty Officer Program.  In October 2012, he was commissioned to Ensign and reported to Officer Training Command Limited Duty Officer/Chief Warrant Officer (LDO/CWO) Academy in New Port, Rhode Island. 

In November 2012 he reported to Naval Computer and Telecommunications Station Far East Detachment Diego Garcia as the Assistant Officer in Charge.

Ensign Hammond received an Associate in Technical Studies degree from Excelsior June 2011.  He has qualified as an Information Dominance Warfare Officer, Enlisted Surface Warfare Specialist and Enlisted Expeditionary Warfare Specialist.  His decorations include the, Joint Service Commendation, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Navy Commendation Medal (four awards), Navy Achievement Medal (four awards), Presidential Unit Citation, Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Navy Unit Commendation, Meritorious Unit Commendation (two awards), Battle “E” Ribbon (two awards), Good Conduct Medal (five awards), National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Armed Forces Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Sea Service Ribbon (five awards), NATO Ribbon, NATO ISAF (International Security Assistance Force) Medal, Navy Recruiting Service Ribbon,  Navy Rifleman, and Navy Pistol Medals.
