Commanding Officer's Welcome Letter
On behalf of the men and women of Naval Computer and Telecommunications Area Master Station, Pacific (NCTAMS PAC), I would like to extend a warm and sincere Aloha! The mission of NCTAMS PAC is to provide diversified communication, network monitoring and control, and electronic maintenance to Fleet units and all echelons of shore Commands in Hawaii and across the Pacific. The Command is located in Wahiawa, on the island of Oahu, with outlying departments at Joint Base Pearl Harbor Hickam, and Camp H. M. Smith. NCTAMS PAC is comprised of approximately 30 officers, 40 Chief Petty Officers, 350 Petty Officers First Class and below, and 200 civilians.
I encourage you to contact your sponsor at the earliest opportunity to discuss your transfer to NCTAMS PAC and to raise any questions you may have. If you do not have a sponsor, e-mail the Sponsor Coordinator or feel free to call COMM 808-653-7700 or DSN 315-453-7700 to inquire about your sponsor. If you wish to write, the address is:
NCTAMS PAC Sponsorship Team
500 Center Street
Wahiawa, HI 96786-3050
or e-mail email@example.com. The Command Ombudsman may be reached by e-mail at NCTAMSOMBUD@gmail.com.
If your family members are accompanying you, it is important to notify your sponsor. Provide your sponsor with a letter or e-mail with information about your family size and how many bedrooms you are looking for, your sponsor will be able to assist you in the right direction for base housing or civilian housing. As a service to all Command sponsored families, upon request, family housing will provide refrigerators and stoves to all Command sponsored families, for those who reside on base. If you are able to reside on base, you are encouraged to use these appliances and consider not shipping your major appliances to Hawaii. Family housing no longer provides washers and dryers, so you will have to bring your own, or purchase them once you arrive. All other furniture support is provided for a maximum of 90 days. Information about the base and surrounding cities is available on line at www.greatlifehawaii.com and www.militaryonesource.com.
Because Hawaii is a high cost of living area, I strongly encourage you to plan accordingly to cover PCS costs. Additionally, if possible I suggest you ship your privately owned vehicle at least 30 days prior to your transfer to Hawaii due to high rental car costs. Some departments of NCTAMS PAC are not near Wahiawa, but are widely dispersed on the island of Oahu. Therefore, privately owned transportation is recommended. To obtain the shipping status of your Privately Owned Vehicle (POV) you may log onto the website and access www.pcsmypov.com. You will be required to enter your confirmation number or shipping instruction number.
Hawaii has strict regulations for dogs, cats, and other pets. No dogs, cats, or other pets may be granted entry into the State unless certain, specific requirements are met, including such pre-shipment requirements as current, recent health certificates and vaccinations. If all requirements are met prior to arrival (some prerequisites may require up to 120 days), you may not be required to quarantine your pet upon arrival. Additional information may be found HERE.
The USO Aloha Lounge is available at the airport for your convenience in the event you should need to wait for your trip to NCTAMS PAC. In the unlikely event you are not met at the airport, call the quarterdeck and transportation will be provided. Any difficulties or changes experienced in arriving on the island (i.e. Order modification, flight dates or times, etc.) can be easily adjusted by contacting your sponsor or by notifying the Officer of the Deck at the quarterdeck COMM 808-653-5385/5386 or DSN 315-453-5385/5386. Directions to NCTAMS PAC from Honolulu International Airport and/or Waikiki are as follows: Take H-1 west, exit H-2 Wahiawa, then exit 8 Wahiawa. When you exit stay in the left lane and keep going straight until you see Whitmore Avenue. Turn right on Whitmore Avenue and keep going straight until you reach the main gate.
We firmly believe that your tour at NCTAMS PAC will be both a personally gratifying and professionally challenging experience.
I look forward to meeting you.
CAPT H. L. ARCHIBALD
