Captain Danelle Barrett
Commanding Officer
Captain Barrett graduated from Boston University in 1989 with a BA in History where she received her commission from the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps in a ceremony aboard the USS CONSTITUTION. She assumed command of NCTAMS LANT in August 2011.
Early career assignments included: Message Center Division Officer, Naval Computer and Telecommunications Station, Jacksonville; Officer-in-Charge, Naval Telecommunications Center, NAS Cecil Field; Automated Message Processing Division Officer and Communications Department Head, Naval Computer and Telecommunications Station, Puerto Rico; Mobile C4 Systems Division Officer, Commander, U.S. Naval Forces Central Command/Fifth Fleet; Senior Navy Fellow, Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association; Fleet Information Systems Officer, Commander, Second Fleet; Network Requirements Officer, Allied Commander Atlantic Systems Support Center.
In December 2000, she was personally selected by the VCNO to be on a seven person task force to develop the transformational way ahead for Navy operational and business processes through web enablement. Within two months, TASK FORCE WHISKEY developed the vision, strategy, technical and operational architectures to web enable the Navy. In addition, she also spearheaded the development of a C4 community White Paper that was presented to the VCNO and used as the basis for follow on work in establishing the Information Professional community. From October 2001 through August 2003 she worked on TASK FORCE WEB.
Her more recent assignments included: Deputy N6 and Communications Officer, Commander, Carrier Strike Group 12; Deputy Knowledge Manager, Multi-National Forces Iraq; Information Operations Planner and Knowledge Manager, Standing Joint Force Headquarters, U.S. Pacific Command; Assistant Chief of Staff for C5, Commander Carrier Strike Group Two which included deployments in support of Operations ENDURING FREEDOM in Afghanistan and UNIFIED RESPONSE in Haiti; Information Professional Senior Officer Detailer, Commander, Navy Personnel Command.
She holds Masters of Arts degrees in Management, National Security/Strategic Studies, Human Resources Development, and a Master’s of Science in Information Management. She has published 22 articles. Her personal awards include: Defense Meritorious Service Medal; Meritorious Service Medal (3); Joint Service Commendation Medal; Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (4); Joint Service Achievement Medal; Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (3); Military Woman of the Year Jacksonville 1991 and Puerto Rico 1993; Copernicus Awards 1998, 2000, and 2005; Naval Institute C4 writing award 1999; DoD Chief Information Officer Award First Place Individual Category 2006; Federal 100 Winner 2010.
