Full Title NEW EMPLOYEE ORIENTATION (GN41)
Description This New Employee Orientation session provides recently hired Department of the Navy civilian employees with an introduction to the human resources information, services, benefits, and requirements they receive as new Federal government civilian employees.

Covered topics will include:

Pay and Personnel Systems
Types of Appointment
SF-50’s, OPF’s, and DCPDS
Reliable Sources of HR Information
Health Insurance Program
Federal Employee Group Life Insurance Program
Thrift Savings Plan
Flexible Spending Account
Long Term Care Insurance Program
Dental and Vision Program
Leave
Political Activities
Verification of Employment
Prohibited Personnel Practices

This one-day orientation will focus on these topics and other universal topics within the civilian human resources function. Unique local site and command specific topics such as safety and security should be addressed during an activity level orientation sponsored by the new employee’s home command.

The target audience for this orientation are new civilian employees hired within 30 to 60 days of the orientation session date. Commands that are considering submitting nominations for employees who are beyond this 30 to 60 day threshold should be aware that while these nominations will not be turned away employees who are beyond this 30 to 60 day window may not be able to make optimum use of the information and topics presented during this Orientation.

PAYMENT PROCEDURES: There is a no direct cost for this course. If travel and per diem are required it will be at cost to the command sponsoring the attendee.

HRSC East courses are open to all Department of Navy activities. Attendees who currently meet eligibility requirements or have been elected for such a position may be accepted.

No recording devices of any kind are permitted in HRSC East classes.
Cancellation Please provide as much advance notice as possible for enrollment cancellations in this no-cost course.

Substitutions after the nomination deadline are acceptable if the student meets the eligibility criteria.
