 POLICY AND GUIDANCE

Improving and streamlining the hiring process guide the Department of Navy’s action on hiring reform. Responding to the President’s focus on government-wide hiring reform, the Department of Defense (DoD) initiated an enterprise wide effort aimed at improving the hiring process.

The DoD Strategic Management Plan identifies “Enhance the Civilian Workforce” as one of the top five Business Priorities, with the Performance Goal to “streamline the human resource hiring process." Adding further urgency to the government-wide hiring reform initiative, on May 11, 2010, the President released a memorandum issuing six key directives for agencies.

The Department of the Navy (DON) is committed to the federal hiring reform process. The policies and guidance posted to this page serve to further DON’s goals of improving the applicant’s experience, reducing time to fill vacancies, and increasing the engagement of hiring managers and senior leaders. Enabling regulations, implementing issuances and guidance for relevant subjects are continuously reviewed and updated as necessary.
