Equality of Opportunity … a strategic human capital imperative
The Department of the Navy (DON) recognizes equality of opportunity as vital to attracting, developing, and retaining a top-quality workforce. It is therefore DON’s policy to ensure equality of opportunity principles are fully integrated into the DON mission and to promote full realization of these principles through continuing affirmative programs.
To ascertain program success, DON personnel programs and policies will be evaluated, at least on an annual basis, to identify and eliminate barriers to EEO.
All DON major components and subordinate activities are expected to promote, implement, and ensure equality of opportunity in the workplace and to work proactively towards identification and elimination of barriers to EEO. Specific guidance and requirements for implementing, coordinating, and conducting command and activity barrier analysis efforts is provided.
The DON requires all major commands and subordinate activities to implement and maintain an effective and efficient Reasonable Accommodation Program thereby ensuring that all employees and applicants for employment are afforded the opportunity to compete on an equal playing field.
Harassment in the workplace will not be tolerated and allegations of harassment will be taken seriously. Each and every employee is free to exercise their rights under the civil rights statutes.
