The Federal Employee Dental and Vision Benefits Enhancement Act of 2004 gave the Office of Personnel Management the opportunity to make supplemental dental/vision benefits available to eligible Federal and Postal employees, retirees, and their eligible family members. This program allows dental/vision insurance to be purchased on a group basis, which means competitive premiums and no pre-existing condition limitations. There is no Government contribution to the dental/vision premiums; however, premiums are paid on a pre-tax basis.
BENEFEDS is the administrative system authorized by the Office of Personnel Management to handle payroll deduction functions for FEDVIP. BENEFEDS works directly with SHPS, the third party administrator for FEDVIP, and Federal agencies to process the payroll deduction for dental/vision premiums.
