Commander Bradley F. Maas is a native of Orinda, California. He was awarded a Bachelor of Science degree and commissioned at the U.S. Naval Academy in May 1993.
Following a foreign language study seminar in Salamanca, Spain, and initial training, Maas reported for duty onboard USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70) in Alameda, California, where he served as the Operations Intelligence (OI) Division Officer and the Combat Direction Center (CDC) Surface Module Officer. During this tour he earned his Officer of the Deck and Surface Warfare Officer qualifications. Subsequent operational tours include service as the Knowlege Manager for Carrier Strike Group 7 aboard USS John C. Stennis (CVN 74) and USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76), where he qualified as Staff Tactical Action Officer and Battle Watch Captain, and as the Knowledge Management Officer (KMO) for Combined Joint Task Force (CJTF)-101 in Bagram, Afghanistan.
Ashore, Maas was the Satellite Operations Department Head at the Naval Satellite Operations Center (NAVSOC), Naval Air Station Point Mugu, California. He served as the Officer in Charge of Naval Computer and Telecommunications Area Master Station (NCTAMS) Detachment Rota, Spain. Most recently, he was assigned as Information Technology (IT) Projects Division Chief, J6, US Transportation Command (USTRANSCOM); he also reported to the USTRANSCOM Chief of Staff as the command's KMO.
In October 2003, Maas earned his Masters of Science degree in IT Management at the Naval Postgraduate School, and simultaneously completed requirements for the Naval War College Command and Staff Diploma. He is also a graduate of the Joint Forces Staff College, and was recently designated as a Joint Qualified Officer (JQO). While at USTRANSCOM, he completed the Advanced Supply Chain Management Certificate Program at St. Louis University. He also completed experience requirements for Acquisition Level II (Program Management), is a member of the Navy's Space Cadre, and is a proven subspecialist in Information Systems and Technology.
In 1997, Maas redesignated to the Fleet Support Officer community (Space and Electronic Warfare track). He became a "plankowner" of the Information Professional (IP) community in 2001, upon the community's establishment.
