INTER-AMERICAN NAVAL TELECOMMUNICATIONS NETWORK

The Inter-American Naval Telecommunications Network (IANTN), since 1989, relies with an award that encourages station members to strive to operate the IANTN VSAT network with efficiency and a spirit of overcoming.

IANTN stations in its effort to efficiently operate the VSAT system must: perform the procedure "cold start" in a timely and adequate, properly prepare messages for transmission, deliver without delay to the recipient the received messages, acknowledge the require receipt of messages in a timely manner, maintain a precise control over the traffic course, convey the correct and timely information that is required, perform the exercises correctly and timely the communications network exercises, and implement appropriate preventive maintenance appropriate quickly and accurately, on a permanent basis to provide personnel to operate the VSAT terminal and encipherment, properly manage the cryptographic material, perform the procedures contained in the publications of the network and present the station properly for inspection that is performed annually.

These actions demonstrate the qualities required of every IANTN station to operate properly as a network member.

The IANTN stations will be classified based on a score system that considers the variables defined in the Best Station Award Regulations.

Those stations obtaining the highest score at the end of the qualifying period will result as the winner and will be named as the "IANTN Best Station" of the year.

From its beginning until 1994 this award was granted to the stations that obtained the highest qualification, according to the statistics conducted by the Network Secretariat. In 1995, the award program was suspended motivated to the main means of HF communications to the VSAT satellite system change. In 1997, the award resume with the new system installed.
