The first annual Suicide Prevention Public Service Announcement Video Contest (SPPSAC) was designed to engage Sailors Navywide with a fresh and contemporary opportunity to speak to their peers about suicide prevention. Messaging for the SPPSAC reinforced suicide prevention as an all hands evolution, promoting awareness of suicide warning signs, seeking help, and bystander intervention from a Sailor's point-of-view.
In addition to technical quality, submissions were judged based on creative use of the required messaging. All submissions had to integrate one or both of this year's core program themes: "it's okay to speak up when you're down" and/or "life is worth living." ACT (Ask Care Treat) must have been referenced in the video as well.
Twenty submissions were received for the contest, ranging from aircraft carriers to small Seabee units, CSADD Chapters and Navy Operational Support Centers (NOSC). The winners, announced on September 28 to conclude Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, are:

-USS Ronald Reagan Media Department (CVN 76): "There is Hope"

-CSADD Naval Medical Center San Diego (SOS Chapter): "Find Your Light"

-NOSC San Antonio: "Don't Weight"
Stay tuned for details on next year's contest. BZ to all 2012 entrants and winners!
