In accordance with Legislation and DoD Policy, deployment of all service members (Officers and Enlisted, Active and Reserve) are required to be tracked on an individual basis (Personnel Tempo-PERSTEMPO).  The Individual Personnel Tempo (ITEMPO) system was developed for this purpose.

 ITEMPO tracks and reports deployment days on individuals who are away from their homeport, permanent duty station or assigned unit.  All commands and activities are required to continue reporting PERSTEMPO events in ITEMPO for all assigned Sailors per NAVADMIN 335/12.  No command or activity is exempt from this requirement. 

Significance of Tracking PERSTEMPO Events

ITEMPO data can be used to assist in the assignment process for both Permanent Change of Station (PCS) and Individual Augmented (IA) orders, answer queries (by Congress, Department of Defense and other agencies such as the Veterans Administration) and document deployment of IAs and Corpsmen attached to Fleet Marine Force units (ensuring they receive proper credit for their important contributions).  

We need your help.  ITEMPO data accuracy can be greatly enhanced by closing expired events.  Numerous PERSTEMPO events are opened in ITEMPO and never closed.  Expired events are triggered by the ITEMPO projected end date and are identified by reports made available to each command via the BUPERS On-Line (BOL) Control "D" mailboxes (I-EXPIRED EVENTS).  The ITEMPO Help-Desk can help with questions WRT closing these expired events.  Thank you for your continued efforts to capture this key data.

 ITEMPO Update for Compliance (May 2013)

ITEMPO has been updated.  We have upgraded the ITEMPO software with the following options in an effort to enhance your reporting efforts:

1.      We provide a “Real Time” online Scorecard for each BSO.  This enables you to see your UIC compliance information in the context of the scorecard.

2.      The upgrade also grants the ability to assign a secondary BSO/UIC set to a certifying individual.  This allows the individual to view and report for a secondary BSO or UIC.

We have included below the instructions on how to use this update.  As always our Help Desk is well trained and standing by ready to assist (901) 874-4717 (DSN-882) Option 1.

In order to work this part of the system you must have the ability to Build/Release transactions.  You will be able to see any UIC within your BSO, or any chosen Subordinate Manpower Codes (SMC).

The ITEMPO program is not only a Legislative requirement, but is the right thing to do for our Sailors.  It is impossible for OPNAV or BUPERS ITEMPO managers to know the ITEMPO deployment schedule of every unit or individual in the Navy; the responsibility and requirement to report ITEMPO for Sailors must appropriately rest with the Commanding Officer.  It is vital that every CO be personally involved to ensure that ITEMPO information is submitted in an accurate and timely manner.
