Starting a CSADD Chapter At Your Command

If you are interested in starting a Chapter at your command there are a few steps you should take.  First and foremost, please review OPNAVINST 1500.80 and NAVADMIN 207/10, which are located under the "CSADD Reference Library" on the main page. These two references are essential when starting a CSADD Chapter. OPNAVINST 1500.80 outlines the suggested manner in which a Chapter shall be formed. These documents also provide an outline of the overall structure of CSADD.

After you are familar with the references, these are the next steps to starting a CSADD Chapter:

1. The first step starting a CSADD chapter is forming a core group of Sailors (ages 18-25) that are motivated and want to participate. On the right side of the page is the "CSADD Chapter Start-up Kit" that can be used to help Sailors better understand CSADD and recruit them into CSADD Chapters. There are also posters in the kit that can be printed and posted around the Command to raise awareness of CSADD.

2. Next select an Advocate from the group to represent the chapter. This will be the point of contact for the chapter with the regional chapter. 

3. Then present the program to a Senior Enlisted Advisor (CMC, CSC, SEL, etc) to ensure command concurrence. The Senior Enlisted Advisor will also act as the Sponsor for the chapter, or they may choose to delegate it to an E-6 or higher.

4. Once an Advocate and Sponsor have been selected the next step is registering the chapter with the regional chapter.

5. In order to contact your region just send an email to the CSADD Program Administrator (justin.griffiths@navy.mil) and they will provide you with the POC for your region.

6. After the region has been contacted they will then add your chapter to their regional chapter roster and registration is complete.

7. The next step is to decide when the chapter will meet. This way the chapter can be on a regular schedule to review the monthly topics and decide what training will be given, or what events will be planned.

8. The last step is to have fun! The success of this program has been built off of the ideas and enthusiasm of the junior Sailors involved. Allowing the Sailors involved to "make it their own" program and be creative is what makes the program so great.
