The mission of the POW / MIA Branch is to assist the Defense Prisoner of War/Missing Personnel Office (DPMO) in exercising policies, controls and oversights within the Department of Defense of the entire process for investigation and recovery related to missing Sailors (including matters related to search, rescue, escape and evasion), coordinate with DoD and other departments and agencies of the US on all matters concerning missing persons, and establish procedure to be followed by DoD boards of inquiry and by officials reviewing the reports of such boards (Missing Persons Act).
The Family Update Program and Annual Government Meetings are designed to exchange information between U.S. Government officials and the families of unaccounted-for Americans from our nation's wars.
The Family Update Forums are exclusively for family members.
