FSGLI Claims 

Guidelines for submission of FSGLI claims are contained in MILPERSMAN 1770-250.  

All claim documentation must be forwarded to FSGLI Section at Navy Casualty from the Servicemember's parent command.  Navy Casualty will review and forward claims to OSGLI for processing.  OSGLI will review the claim and provide payment. OSGLI will send a letter to the Servicemember stating the claim has been paid.

OSLGI will issue a checkbook to the Servicemember to obtain payment.  This checkbook will arrive within 3 days of receiving the payment letter.  A check for the entire amount can be written and the account closed or any series of checks of $250 or more up to the total amount of entitlement.

If the entitlement is $100,000 then the account will have $100,000 in the case of a Spouse or whatever the amount designated by the Servicemember.  In the case of a child claim, the amount will be $10,000.

In case of dual military members only one Servicemember will be entitled to receive payment.

Interest from the date of death to the date of settlement will be added to the account.  The Servicemember may use the proceeds in any manner they desire.
