Navy Personnel Command Public Affairs
We communicate with our total force (active, retired, civilian and contractor) and their families about the personal and professional policies that have the greatest impact in their lives. We provide public affairs support and strategic communications advice to the Navy Personnel Command leaders who are responsible for the issues that matter most to our Sailors, while our Sailors complete the missions that matter most to our nation.
Our team works closely with the Chief of Naval Personnel public affairs office in Washington, DC and the Navy's career management leaders located in Millington, TN, to help provide tools, knowledge, and information to support the personal growth and professional development of Sailors and optimize Navy readiness.
One of the most-powerful communication tools is our website (www.npc.navy.mil), the Echelon 2 website for BUPERS, which currently averages one million visits every month. Visits average approximately 3 minutes each, which translates to nearly 4 million page views every month.
In partnership with the Defense Media Activity, our team produces broadcast commercials for Direct-to-Sailor (DTS) television and the Pentagon channel. These commercials are broadcast to 188 ships around the globe, including: 11 Aircraft Carriers, 36 Amphibious ships, 106 Cruiser, Destroyers, and Frigates, 35 Military Sealift Command ships, and three Coast Guard ships. The average number of Sailors and Marines in the potential audience is nearly 150,000 every day. The Pentagon Channel broadcasts military news and information for the 2.6 million members of the U.S. Armed Forces through programming available to all stateside cable and satellite providers; via American Forces Radio and Television Service, overseas; and via webcast worldwide.
Our writers and editors provide news articles to Navy News Stand, All Hands Magazine, base newspapers and other internal and external news sources.
Our publications include Shift Colors electronic newsletter. Shift Colors is available for download by more than 650,000 Navy retirees, to provide information about personnel policies, military benefits, reunions and other items of interest to our “extended Navy family.”
News media with questions about Navy personnel issues and policies should contact our media officer at 901-874-3157. If information is needed urgently, after normal working hours, a media officer can be reached by calling the duty office at 901-874-3071.
