The highest-ranking women in the Navy are: 

  • Admiral Michelle Howard (Surface Warfare Officer) is the Vice Chief of Naval Operations, making her the first female and first African American to become a 4-star admiral in the Navy.
  • Vice Admiral Robin Braun is the 12th Chief of the Navy Reserve, first female leader of the Navy Reserve, and the highest ranking female Aviator.
  • Vice Admiral Nanette DeRenzi is the 42nd Judge Advocate General (JAG) of the Navy, first female leader of the JAG Corps, and highest ranking Navy officer in the JAG Corps.
  • Vice Admiral Nora Tyson (Naval Flight Officer) is the Deputy Commander, U.S. Fleet Forces Command.
  • Vice Admiral Jan Tighe is the 3rd Commander, U.S. Fleet Cyber Command Command, U.S. 10th Fleet, the Navy's first female commander of a numbered fleet and the only female Information Warfare Officer admiral.

Rear Admiral Annie B. Andrews is the highest ranking Human Resources Officer in the Navy.

Rear Admiral Elizabeth Train is the highest ranking female Information Dominance Corps officer and is the only female Intelligence Officer admiral.

Rear Admiral Katherine Gregory is the first female Chief of Civil Engineers, as well as the highest ranking female Civil Engineer Corps Officer.

Rear Admiral Margaret Kibben is the first female Chief of Navy Chaplains and the first female two-star Navy chaplain.

Rear Admiral Martha Herb is the only female Explosive Ordnance Disposal admiral.

Rear Admiral Babbette Bolivar is the first female Commander Joint Region Marianas and also holds the distinction of being the first female commander of Navy Region Northwest.

Rear Admiral Raquel Bono is the only female Medical Corps admiral.

Rear Admiral Elaine Wagner is the only female Dental Corps admiral.

Rear Admiral Elizabeth Train is the only female Intelligence Officer admiral.

Rear Admiral Diane Webber is the highest ranking female Information Professional Officer.

Rear Admiral Dawn Cutler is the first female Chief of Naval Information and the highest ranking female Public Affairs Officer.

Fleet Master Chief Joann Ortloff serves in one of four Fleet Master Chief positions in the Navy, assigned to Naval Forces Europe and Naval Forces Africa.  Ortloff is only the second woman to serve as a Fleet Master Chief.  Ortloff was the first female Operational (numbered) Fleet Command Master Chief, while assigned to COMTHIRDFLT.

Fleet Master Chief April Beldo serves in one of four Fleet Master Chief positions in the Navy, assigned to Manpower, Personnel, Training and Education (MPT&E) under the Chief of Naval Personnel.  Beldo is the first African American female Fleet Master Chief in the Navy and only third woman to hold this position.  Beldo was also the first African American female Command Master Chief to serve onboard a nuclear aircraft carrier.

Force Master Chief Nancy Hollingsworth serves as the FORCM for Commander, Navy Installations Command Headquarters, the first woman to hold this position.     

Force Master Chief Susan Whitman, serves as the FORCM for Commander, Navy Surface Atlantic, the first woman to hold this position.
