SEAL Officer Selection has been modified to improve the selection process with the intent of having a better selected candidate arrive for Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL (BUD/S) training. An interview has been added as part of the selection process.
***FY14 SEAL Officer selection panel interviews are by invitation only.***
Interviews are a one day event, schedule below:
11, 12, or 13 June - Virginia Beach, VA
16, 17, or 18 July - Coronado, CA
13, 14, or 15 August - Coronado, CA
Assessment panels composed of 3-7 SEAL Officers will conduct candidate interviews over the course of each two day window. Assessment recommendations will be provided to the SEAL Officer selection panel during September 2013, and selection recommendations will be made to the appropriate accession source point of contact after this panel concludes.
Details for each type of selection source candidate are outlined below:
Officer Candidate School (OCS)
· OCS candidates selected for a SEAL officer panel interview will be contacted via the SEAL Officer Community Manager (OCM) and their Navy Officer recruiter with details.
Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps (NROTC)
· All candidates currently assigned a Naval Special Warfare (NSW) summer training cruise will be interviewed during their respective cruise window only.
· NROTC candidates that are not on a NSW cruise, yet plan on applying for a SEAL Officer quota for service selection in current fiscal year, can personally arrange travel to coincide with one of the interview windows.
· NROTC candidates not assigned a NSW summer training cruise will be individually self-sponsored or command sponsored for travel. No funds are available to support candidate travel. Candidates who cannot travel to one of the interview windows will still be considered using the paper application guidelines outlined at the NROTC link. Phone interviews will be considered if scheduling permits and a candidate cannot travel to one of the interview windows.
· Uniform for interviews will be Summer White.
Unrestricted Line (URL) Lateral Transfer
· URL Naval officer candidates are expected to interview during one of the interview windows. The candidate will be individually self-sponsored or command sponsored. No funds are available to support candidate travel.
· URL Naval officer candidates unable to make interview windows due to operational commitments such as deployment are required to conduct a phone interview if scheduling permits. Candidates who cannot arrange for an interview will be considered using the paper application guidelines outlined at the URL link.
· Uniform for interviews will be Summer White.
Interservice Transfer
· Interservice transfer officer candidates are expected to interview during one of the interview windows. The candidate will be individually self-sponsored or command sponsored. No funds are available to support candidate travel.
· Interservice transfer officer candidates unable to make interview windows due to operational commitments such as deployment are required to conduct a phone interview if scheduling permits. Candidates who cannot arrange for an interview will be considered using the paper application guidelines outlined at the Interservice transfer link.
· Uniform for interviews will be Summer White or service equivalent.
Restricted Line (RL) Lateral Transfer
· Restricted Line (RL) Naval officer candidates must follow the NAVADMIN announcing the Navy's Active Duty Officer Lateral Transfer-Redesignation Board. These boards are held twice a year (June and October). RL Lateral Transfer guidelines are outlined at the RL Lateral Transfer link.
