This page and the links in the left menu contain general information about the FTS officer program, the Selective Retention Boards for FTS CAPT and  FTS CDR, Selective Early Release from Active Duty for FTS CDR, and the FTS Aviation Career Continuation Pay (ACCP) bonus.   

Information on how to apply for redesignation into the FTS officer program, to include eligibility criteria, application procedures, and upcoming Transfer/Redesignation Board information can be found at the FTS Redesignation Board webpage.  Board results for all previous FTS Transfer/Redesignation Boards are located on the FTS Redesignation Procedures webpage.  The lists contain the names of those officers selected for redesignation into the FTS program, estimated redesignation month, and redesignation procedures.

Intro to the FTS Officer Community

Are you an active duty officer (LCDR or below) considering leaving the Navy?

Are you an active duty officer (LCDR or below) simply looking to transition into another active duty community?

Are you a Ready Reserve officer (O-1 to O-4) considering coming back onto active duty? 

Are you an existing FTS officer looking to request redesignation into another FTS officer community?

Per MILPERSMAN Articles 1001-020 and 1301-221, the Full Time Support (FTS) of the Navy Reserve Officer program was created in order to have Reserve officers on active duty to perform duties in connection with organizing, administering, recruiting, instructing, managing, and training the Navy's Reserve Component (RC).   As such, FTS officers are assigned into billets throughout the Navy (INCONUS and overseas) providing essential active duty support to the Navy Reserve in the areas of manpower management, personnel administration, mobilization training, logistics support, financial management, and facilities management. 

FTS officers enjoy all of the same pay and benefits as their Active Component (AC) counterparts, to include being eligible for an active duty retirement upon completion of 20 years of satisfactory active duty service.  Depending on the community and eligibility rules, certain community-specific bonuses and continuation pays are also available for FTS officers.

FTS officers are distinguished from their peers by the assignment of "7" as the last digit of their designator.  The following designators comprise the FTS officer program:

  • 1117/1167 - Surface Warfare
  • 1127 - Submarine Warfare
  • 1137 - Special Warfare
  • 1147/1197 - Special Operations
  • 1317 - Naval Aviator
  • 1327 - Naval Flight Officer
  • 1207 - Human Resources
  • 1527 - Aerospace Maintenance Duty Officer
  • 3107 - Supply Corps

          and Reserve Recruiter (desig=1687)
          communities no longer exist as separate
          communities in the FTS officer program. 
          They were absorbed into the Human 
          Resources community.

 

Information about each FTS officer community is provided in the form of community briefs on the right side of this webpage.  The FTS Redesignation Board webpage also provides some specific info about each FTS officer community's present manning needs.  Be advised that these manning needs change periodically.  Updated community manning needs are released prior to each FTS Transfer/Redesignation Board.

Officers are gained into the FTS program through the semi-annual FTS Transfer/Redesignation Board (usually held in March and October).  These boards are announced via semi-annual NAVADMIN messages, which provide application guidelines, application due dates, as well as target year groups and communities.  Additional, board-specific information will also be posted on the FTS Redesignation Board website.  The semi-annual FTS Transfer/Redesignation Boards are also where FTS officers interested in transferring from one FTS officer community to another FTS officer community can submit their applications/requests.

U.S. Navy active duty officers and Ready Reserve officers (to include Selected Reserve (SELRES), Voluntary Training Unit (VTU), SELRES officers serving as Canvassing Recruiters (CANREC), and SELRES officers serving on Multi-Year Recall Orders) are eligible to apply for the FTS program. 

Officers from the Individual Ready Reserve (IRR) and enlisted personnel are not eligible for the FTS officer program. 

Based upon manning needs, eligibility criteria can change slightly for each board.  Updated eligibility criteria will be outlined within each respective NAVADMIN and will be posted on the FTS Redesignation Board website.

FTS Service Obligation:  Active Component officers redesignated as FTS incur a 2-year minimum FTS service requirement.  Ready Reserve officers recalled into the FTS program incur a 3-year minimum FTS service requirement.
