BOATSWAINSMATE RATING INFORMAITON
Greetings from Deck Department! As always, the Navy continues to provide an exciting and demanding environment for its Sailors, including those in Deck Department.
Boatswain’s Mates are consistently meeting these challenges, especially in the role of Recruiters and Recruit Division Commanders. However, there is room for more. I cannot stress the importance of leadership and there is no better way of learning and living it than as Recruit Division Commanders and Recruiters.
For E-7 to E-9, one area that needs the fleet’s attention is the sea-duty 3M Coordinator program. If you’re interested in these challenging billets and are eligible for sea duty, contact me with your intentions. Additionally, we are experiencing a 25% shortfall in required Harbor Pilot and a 60% shortfall in Tugmaster manning, both of which are awesome opportunities for those desiring these demanding duties.
For all you senior Boatswain’s Mates, I challenge you to pull your Sailors along side, inspire them to grab a hold of their career and take on the toughest assignments. Ensure they’re using CMS/ID and their PTS is up to date and contact their detailer early with their career desires and intentions when they reach their 9-month window. Furthermore, everyone should expect at least one future overseas assignment and/or an OSA tour during their career. Additionally, we are a sea-intensive rating and with that, expect to follow your sea/shore flow. Keep Chargin!
