USS SOMERSET LPD 25
It is time to begin manning USS SOMERSET (LPD 25) and we are looking for our
Navy's best and brightest talent to join the team that will set the watch,
man the rails and sail SOMERSET to sea!
We are the ninth ship in the San Antonio class of Landing Platform Dock
(LPD) ships. She is named in memory of the crew and passengers of Flight 93
for their sacrifice and courage during the 9/11/2001 terrorists attacks.
Nearly 22 tons of steel from a crane that stood near Flight 93's crash site
have been used to construct Somerset's stemhold. In the words of Secretary
of the Navy Gordon R. England, "The courage and heroism of the people aboard
the flight will never be forgotten and USS Somerset will leave a legacy that
will never be forgotten by those wishing to do harm to this country." The
legacy of those 40 brave souls is imbedded in all we do.
