CDR Derek Adametz Commanding Officer
 
     Commander Derek S. Adametz earned his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Wisconsin and was commissioned through the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps program in May 1996. He was designated Naval Aviator in February 1998.
 
     CDR Adametz joined VP-45 at NAS Jacksonville, Florida in February 1999. While assigned to the Pelicans, he deployed to NS Roosevelt Roads, Puerto Rico and Howard AFB, Panama in support of counter-drug operations.
 
     In July 1999 he was assigned to the Naval Historical Center at the Washington Navy Yard after being diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. After completing his chemotherapy regimen in December 1999, CDR Adametz attended the Naval Postgraduate School at Monterey, CA earning a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering with Distinction degree and a minor in Applied Physics.
 
     CDR Adametz then joined the Mad Foxes of VP-5 at NAS Jacksonville, Florida in January 2002. He made two multi-site deployments and qualified as Patrol Plane Commander, Mission Commander and Instructor Pilot. Both deployments included operations in support of IRAQI FREEDOM, ENDURING FREEDOM, DELIBERATE FORGE, ACTIVE ENDEAVOR and counter-drug operations. He completed his tour as Readiness Officer, Aircraft Division Officer and Detachment Officer-in-Charge.
 
     In July 2005 CDR Adametz reported aboard USS NIMITZ (CVN 68) and served as the Assistant Operations Officer. During his tour he deployed to FIFTH Fleet and qualified as Assistant Command Duty Officer, Tactical Action Officer and Officer of the Deck (Underway).
 
     CDR Adametz then joined the Grey Knights of VP-46 at NAS Whidbey Island, Washington for his Department Head tour in August 2007. He served as the Administrative Officer, Training Officer, Maintenance Officer and Detachment Officer-in-Charge, and deployed to Djibouti, Africa and Al Udeid AB, Qatar.
 
     In November 2009, CDR Adametz reported to the Pentagon as the Military Assistant to the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Global Strategic Affairs. During this tour he assisted in policy development and execution in the areas of countering Weapons of Mass Destruction, Nuclear and Missile Defense Policy, DoD Cyber Security and Space.
 
     In May 2013, he reported to Patrol Squadron EIGHT as Executive Officer. His personal decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal with Strike Flight Award, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (4), and various campaign medals and unit awards.
