Commander R. A. Wilkerson

 

Commander Wilkerson hails from San Diego, California. He graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in May 2000 with a Bachelor of Science degree in English. He was designated a Naval Aviator in April 2002 and completed fleet replacement training with VP-30 in January of 2003.
 
Commander Wilkerson's first sea tour was with the Mad Foxes of Patrol Squadron FIVE (VP-5) in Jacksonville, Florida. During his three-year tour, he completed two deployments in support of operations in Europe and South America while serving as Maintenance Admin Officer, Readiness Officer, and Pilot NATOPS.
 
In August 2006, Commander Wilkerson reported to Scientific Development Squadron ONE (VXS-1) in Patuxent River, Maryland. While assigned to the Warlocks, his ground assignments included Pilot Training Officer, NATOPS Officer, and Operations Officer. As an NP-3D and RC-12 Mission Commander, he completed and led numerous detachments in support of research and development projects.
 
In April 2008, Commander Wilkerson reported to the USS CARL VINSON (CVN-70) in Norfolk, Virginia as a Catapult and Arresting Gear Officer (Shooter). While serving as the V-2 Division Officer and TOPCAT he helped successfully complete the carriers Refueling Complex Over Haul (RCOH) and returned it to an Operational Status.
 
In February 2010, Commander Wilkerson reported to Patrol Squadron THIRTY (VP-30) as a fleet Replacement Squadron Instructor Pilot.  He served as the ISD Officer and Training Director. He was also responsible for running the Centennial of Naval Aviation (CONA) events for the MPRF Community.
 
In August 2011, Commander Wilkerson reported for his department head tour with Patrol Squadron TEN (VP-10) in Jacksonville, Florida. During this tour, he served as Command Services Officer, Safety NATOPS Officer, CTG 47.1 Officer in Charge and Operations Officer in support of the Lancer’s multi-site deployments to Qatar, Bahrain, Japan and El Salvador.
 
From January 2014 to May 2016, Commander Wilkerson served as a Program Analyst in the Force Structure, Requirements, Resources, and Strategic Assessments Directorate (J-8) at USSOCOM. As the lead programmer for the Fiscal Year 2017-2021 Program Objective Memorandum (POM), Commander Wilkerson was responsible for preparing all defense documents for the USSOCOM POM.
 
        Commander Wilkerson has logged over 2400 hours in various U.S. Navy aircraft. His awards include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (5), Joint Service Achievement Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (2), and various campaign and unit awards.
